My cartoons are in this trailer. (Don't blink or you'll miss it!) Go rent this movie. Not long before his death, I created some comics interpretations of a few of Charles Bukowski's poems, with his knowledge and cooperation. Via Dennis P. Eichhorn, Buk provided me with poems to interpret. He endorsed and cashed every check. Most importantly, to me, he liked the comics, let me do another, etc. A few panels of our comics are shown in the movie. They are flashed by quickly in the trailer, but the drinking cartoons are from the comic book title called BIG MOUTH. Some of these books are still available here

Another Bukowski comic I illustrated appeared in ZERO ZERO issue one, from Fantagraphics. Another cartoon trivia note about the movie- Eichhorn has some original cartoon art, drawn by Bukowski himself, that appears at the end of the movie.

Wurlitzer Organ: Tremulant Vibrato Nanny Goat Sound Hated By Purist Farts [Doc Pt. 2]
Since I posted that last organ video, I received some requests to put up more of this program. The first part showcased the organists. This video continues with additional discussion devoted to the history and mechanics of the organ as well as a few tours of organs installed in homes. It would be interesting to know if these installations still exist.

Wurlitzer Organ: When You're Smiling [Doc Pt. 1]
I found this among my dusty collection of films and videos. It was recorded over 20 years ago so please excuse the quality. There are some nice performances on organs around England and many great scenes from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom featuring a few famous organists from the past. Big Tiny Little: Maple Leaf Rag [Lawrence Welk]
This is a clip from my 16mm kinescope collection of Lawrence Welk films. Big Tiny Little performing Maple Leaf Rag. Tiny Little was the ragtime piano player on the Welk show from 1955-1959 before Jo Ann Castle made her debut in 1959. This program aired on October 17, 1957.
Ethel Smith: 'The Breeze and I'
This was on a 16mm film. The sound and picture were recorded separately since the projector was quite noisy. It was difficult to keep in sync plus the film had a bit of warpage so the sound is not that great either. It's part of a Castle Films short which starred Desi Arnaz who doesn't appear here, but that's another show. I just wanted to feature Ethel Smith since it's rare that you ever see one of the early great organists on film.
The Lawrence Welk Show: I Get A Kick Out Of You [Jerry Burke (1955)]
Most people watching the Welk show mainly associate his organist with Bob Ralston. Long before Bob joined the Welk show, Jerry Burke tickled the keys of a tone wheel Hammond. Jerry made several reunion appearances on the show during Ralston's tenure and passed away unexpectedly decades ago.
Thomas Dorsey: INVENTED GOSPEL MUSIC AMEN!
AMEN AND AMEN!! I went to a church singing tonight at the Children's Home in Mount Dora, Florida. The song leader read the story of "Precious Lord" a song I'd sung for years. I can never sing it the same way again. Thank God men with such talents can share their gifts for generations to come. Redemption, friends, what can be sweeter than that? It's amazing how music in the church has evolved. But what's sad is that we as Christians are still the same when it comes to that. Just as he was not accepted in a lot of churches then, their are Christian artist that aren't accepted today. Mainly Christian rappers. From Dorsey to Cleveland to the Winans and Commissioned. None were accepted at first. Then of course Kirk Franklin. We as Christians are only holding ourselves back from receiving all God has for us.
