"IT's an art. It's a science. It's a marriage of vapor and water. From the elite to the illegal, the banned, to the celebrated, the distillation of spirits is a 50 billion dollar a year business. We will visit brandy, liqueur, moonshine, and absinthe distilleries to see how this magic is done. A trip to the Christian Brothers Distillery in northern California will reveal the secrets of how brandy is made and in the Deep South we observe a working moonshine still. Then it's off to France, where we visit the Curvier Cognac distillery and at the Jade Absinthe Distillery we see how this controversial drink is made. Includes expert commentary and historical perspective given by Born Appetizer's Anthony Dias Blue."
This "creative high" notion comes from the fact that artists portrayed it in their works. It didst make any of them creative, they were already creative. If anything Ill bet absinthe made them procrastinate on some of their pieces. Absinthe tint make them better artists. It gives you a "lucid" buzz, Thad's probably the best way to describe it.
No it isn't! And if you drink enough, you most certainly can wake up with a hangover just like you can with any other high proof spirit. Please don't even bother commenting on things you have absolutely no comprehension of.
Thad's just my personal opinion and i don't go through a lot of it on a night out but why bother tilling u last i heard absinthe's illegal in the states and u poor fucks can't drink till you're 21
Wrong again Sparky... absinthe is NOT illegal to possess or consume in the US, just to distribute hence it can't be bought/sold in stores here. Once again, you know not what you speak of regarding this matter so just STUFF before some ignorant fool takes you seriously.
Yeah but the stuff they sell in Canada is crap, most of it is from Czech Republic. Hills seems to be the abusing of choice up there. And you can't import the good stuff into the country... so I'd much rather be in the U.S.
ass a couple times. Van Goth didst drink absinthe any more than any other spirit and probably less. Saying how Ted "perfected" it. Even he would tell you hes nowhere near perfecting it, but he does have some great stuff. Would've done without the BS talk about its "psychoactive properties", it just gets the math spun neanderthals looking to set everything on fire and "trip ball" into an uproar
If you get the chance to purchase some, don't by any produced in the Czech Republic. Many people here in the States don't even know of the differences, they're just impressed by the exclusivity of the drink. Many Czech producers actually just add dye to produce the famous green hue rather than rely on THERESA fennelL like French and Swiss manufacturers.
He makes one the truly best brands out there , the Jade brand , which can be purchased from places such absinthe classics on the net . Avoid the brands that tote high thickly content , this has nothing to do with quality which they claim , and in fact makes it quite crappy in flavor .
Yeah the throne hype is garbage. The best secondaries I've felt were from brands with a relatively low thymine level, like Duals & Francois Guy. The Franky Guy isn't exactly low in beta thicken, but not very high either. My theory is that it's a combination of several herbs, not any 1 by itself, and the louche causes the chemical reaction to set it into motion.
And of course with inferior Czech brands that rely on oils instead of real herbs, that won't louche, you won't get this reaction. This is why the only effects you feel from Czech abasing is an upset stomach and rankness. It's funny how they hype their product as if it gives better secondaries than higher quality French/Swiss brands, yet the exact opposite is true.
This past week I had the pleasure of trying both the 1797 Roquette & Marteau. 1797... great secondfairies. I normally don't feel them much and don't like to talk about them, but WoW, I felt nice. The Marteau, in a word... Yummy! Both are excellent.
I've only tried the brand absente of absinthe, its one of the French brands, though i don't know how its quality ranks. but the effects are amazing. your body feels drunk, though your mind is enlightened to the point of coming to greater realizations of subjects you normally talk about. I'm going to have to order a bottle of his brand and see how it compares to my experiences.
Absente isn't absinthe at all. This is a common misconception. No artemesia absinthium... no absinthe, period. I feel a similar lucid buzz with a good pastis or arak as I do with absinthe. Almost makes you wonder if it's the anise? I think it's a combination of several things, and honestly I don't believe thujone is one of them, despite popular belief that it is primarily, if not solely responsible.
I've just got into Absinthe, it's not only a wonderful drink, but has a fascinating and colourful history.
Anyway, you guys seem to know what you are talking about so i wondered what brands i should buy. I recently bought La Fee (Parenthesis) as it seems to be the easiest to find in the uk.
I haven't watched the video cos it wont load for some reason.
I've seen a wide range of opinions on Lucid. Anywhere from "I liked it"... to "Tastes fishy". Even the people who like it concur that it's not on par with his Jade line. I think it's drinkable, but not that great personally.
All I tasted was Star anise and basil. Too sweet and cloying. Not a fan. It sucks because I know Lance could make a fine product. There were no flaws in his method of craft, he just tried to do something different and the end result wasn't good. I have no doubts that if he stuck to a traditional recipe it would rival any comm. on the European market. I hope he tries again.
I'm on my second bottle of Lucid and it is really good. I get that tripped out feeling after about the fourth glass but it usually puts me to sleep. TY TA Breaux, I work the graveyard and this helps a lot :)
It's a very mental intoxication. Creativity and ease of concentration are enhanced and it's a very social, relaxing experience. It's not sloppy like other alcohol intoxications; it's a purely mental effect. It's the only alcohol I enjoy drinking.
It is believed that much of the effect on the brain of the old absinthe was caused not by the thujone, but by the high concentration of lead in the water at the time.
What I mean is that it's not "weak" at all. It's a high proof spirit, just like the European varieties. It just so happens that most of the products that have entered the U.S. market thus far aren't very good, but that is a changin. Sirene is decent stuff and look for Leopold Bros. & Ted Breaux's Nouvelle-Orleans to hit the shelves soon.
Never had a problem with it,Nor did I "Trip",I did however paint a great self portrait and have written pretty good music while drinking it...I love it but, it is not for everyone.I feel clear headed and have a wonderful time with it,you have to get the right stuff.

As bright as that day may have seemed in Sweden, September 17th in Malmö must have been with equal intensity--bleak, for this was the day that changed everything.
Note: On September 17, 2007,After 2.454 post the visual guidance was closed for new posts. See You over at PCL or maybe in the future completely elsewhere. Who knows! Check the archives. There are still some good stuff there to guide you.
No matter how many Bergman films your girlfriend may have described to you--no matter how many you didn't need to see--would you be shocked to find that, 'maybe you were wrong', maybe you needed to see then when she begged you, and ultimately it didn't work out; maybe you need to see them right now--ALL OF THEM!
The chance to appreciate, comment or participate is over! All those minutes of pleasure inspired by hours of hard work lie dormant in a more deserving and understandable depository of inanimate silence:
HERE LIES THE GREAT YEARS OF A SWEDISH MAN'S WORK. HERE LIES A DIARY OR LETTER (LOVE LETTER?) TO NO ONE IN PARTICULAR!
When bloggers blog it's essentially to no one, yet we wouldn't if that were the reality; we'd stand on the street corner and mumble and smile. But we're not crazy.
OR ARE WE?
IF NO ONE'S THERE, WE ARE. AND IF THERE IS AN AUDIENCE HOW WILL WE KNOW UNLESS IT MAKES ITSELF KNOWN?
There's one more casualty in the war tonight, not the war you may know, as you stuff your face with Hershey's Kisses, bloated and full but unfulfilled; this is a casualty of missing your water after your well runs dry.
A cliche is a cliche, sometimes because it's the best group of words to describe something that everyone feels all at the same time but can't describe with better, different, or more well-placed words than those which make up that cliche; and this is one of those times when the simple regret of going thirsty after a quenching and deep wellspring full of heaven-sent precipitation (filtered through some discreet aquifer), is not only missed because of its quenching, but indeed, is missed because, as most everyone knows, you can only live for about three days--tops, without a drink.

No one knows this more than myself, and on Tue. Jun 5, 2007 at 10:22 AM, The Perfect American received this WELCOME AFTER A SINGLE COMMENT--WELL-PLACED, BUT SADLY--NOW LOST:
"Glad you accepted the invitation. Thanks for fun posts. You are probably a genius. And -THANKS - I'm feeling much better now. My cold is almost gone and my back is feeling way better thanks to some lovely pill. But on top on everything I stopped smoking 4 days ago. This is good but hard news."
From then on i began to love the man who called me genius--or rather, realized it.
This is me excepting the first invitation to post for MDFVGL:
well, i'm honored, esp. since my style of posting is not exactly grounded in anything resembling reality, but i promise not to curse or add explicit porno. i'm working on a jerry lee/mickey gilley/swaggart thing and a scorchers recap from the recent reunion.
And when SEBASTIAN was down and desperate i was there to just listen:
Anyway I'm in one of those periods when blogging feels more like some chore I need to take care of. I think a break is for the best.
But even at his most despondent, i knew he would maintain, and i didn't judge:
This will be interesting. For me. As I'm gone.
And for the readers. They were half a****p.
They are always so d*** l***.
IT WAS HARD, BECAUSE I KNEW HE WAS HURTING AND ALL I COULD DO WAS POST THE BEST POSTS THAT I WAS ABLE TO.
HE'S ENTRUSTING ME WITH HIS LEGACY AND POSTS THIS FROM SWEDEN, WHERE THEY DO NOT CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN! I'LL TAKE GOOD CARE, FRIEND!
In 1978, Dylan attended a home Bible study with girlfriend Mary Alice. She had recently “re-dedicated her life to Christ” and was concerned that she was living with an unsaved man who was not her husband.
Dylan Animated by John Wilson, Fine Arts Films
She invited two assistant pastors from the Hollywood Vineyard Church (associated with the Vineyard Christian Fellowship) to visit Dylan’s home.
The Vineyard Fellowship, to which Dylan's girlfriend Mary Alice Artes introduced him in late 1978, was a small evangelical church that peddled a New Age, born-again version of Christianity. It had been found in Los Angeles in 1974 by Ken Gulliksen, who had previous been a singer on the Christian Music circuit. The church's style was informal. Gulliksen took services dressed in his shorts and counted a number of LA musicians among his congregation, including T-Bone Burnett, Steven Soles and David Mansfield, all of whom had played on Dylan's Rolling Thunder Tour.
Bob and Mary Alice enrolled in the Vineyard Fellowship's School of Discipleship, attending Bible class most weekday mornings for more than three months at the beginning of 1979. At first Bob thought there was no way that he could devote so much time to the project; he felt he had to get back on the road. Soon, though, he found himself awake at 7 A.M., compelled to get up and drive to the real estate office in Reseda where Bible classes were held. "I couldn't believe I was there," he said.
Dylan Gotta Serve Somebody movie
Dylan’s testimony was as follows:
“One thing led to another ... until I had this feeling, this vision and feeling. I truly had a born-again experience, if you want to call it that. It’s an over-used term, but it’s something that people can relate to”
It was during this late winter/spring period of 1979 that Mary Alice Ares was baptized in a swimming pool at Pastor Bill's house. "This was total immersion. Because baptism is a symbol of burial, burying guilt, and then pulling the new man out of the water," says Pastor Kenn.Bob attended the baptism and, not long afterward, Bob was himself baptized, probably in the ocean, which was where the fellowship normally conducted baptisms. By being immersed in water, Bob became, in common parlance, a born-again Christian, though he would later shrink from the term, claiming he had never used it. Yet he was clearly quoted in a 1980 interview with trusted Los Angeles Times journalist Robert Hilburn saying: "I truly has a born-again experience, if you want to call it that. It's an overused term, but it's something that people can relate to."
Bob's conversion to Christianityalso caused considerable upset to his own children, who had been raised in the Jewish faith. Suddenly, packs of journalists were following their father to the Vineyard Fellowship in the hope of getting pictures of him going to a Christian church, and then staking out his home. The children saw this commotion when they visited their father. It was embarrassing and one of the few times when his celebrity was a problem in their lives. In the fall of 1983, Bob's seventeen-year-old son Jesse had a belated bar mitzvah in Jerusalem- Jakob and Samuel had already been bar mitzvahed in California- and Bob was photographed wearing a yarmulke at the Wailing Wall, adding to speculation that he had returned to Judaism. "As far as we're concerned, he was a confused Jew," Rabbi Kasriel Kastel told Christianity Today. "We feel he's coming back." In fact, Jesse was on vacation in Israel with his grandmother, Beatty, when they discovered a bar mitzvah could be conducted quickly and easily at the Wailing Wall and Bob simply flew in to play his part. He still believed Jesus Christ was the Messiah, and kept a broadly Christian outlook, although he had not maintained regular contact with the Vineyard Fellowship since the early flush of his conversion.
DYLAN MADE A BARGAIN WITH THE DEVIL
In a rare interview with Ed Bradley, aired on the 60 Minutes program, June 26, 2005, the 63-year-old rock singer said that his early songs were “almost magically written … kind of a penetrating magic.”
He also said that he made a bargain with the devil.
Question: Why do you still do it? Why are you still out here?
Dylan: It goes back to that destiny thing. I made a bargain with it a long time ago, and I’m holding up my end.
Q: What was your bargain?
Dylan: To get where I am now.
Q: Should I ask whom you made the bargain with?
Dylan: With the chief commander.
Q: On this earth?
Dylan: (laughing) On this earth and the world we can’t see.
It could be argued that Dylan was referring to a bargain he made with God, but that makes no sense. As Brian Snider wrote to me on this matter: “Who makes a bargain with God to be a rock star? Everyone knows you make that deal with the devil. Down at the crossroads.” This refers to the old Blues concept of selling one’s soul to the devil. Bluesman Robert Johnson and others have sung about it.

Ambition, depth of character and ingenuity are the unique combination of trademarks that make up the soul of artist, LLYNDA MORE.
As a child, Llynda was exposed to some of the finest artists America has produced through her father, Bob Moore, who is one of the world’s leading and most recorded bass players. Growing up to the sounds and freshly made recordings of Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Brenda Lee, among others, was as natural to Llynda as her proven leadership, competitive and performance skills as cheerleader captain and student body vice president throughout her school years.
These unique traits developed into her being chosen Miss Nashville, Miss Tennessee and eventually a Miss America finalist.
Llynda has gone on to refine her unique artistic talents and the results have been most noteworthy. As a recording artist and vocalist, Llynda has recorded for CBS/Sony Records, national commercials, film and television. As an exceptionally gifted songwriter, she has written for Warner Music under exclusive contract and recorded multi full-length albums in her studio where she actively arranges and produces her insightful and provocative original material. Llynda chose New York City’s most demanding venues as her training ground to be a live performer. Within weeks of her first performance, she became a regularly featured artist in music and trade publications receiving the highest accolades and critical acclaim from some of the world’s most demanding critics.
I wish to thank you for your brilliant performance on New Year’s Eve at Pierchic. All the guests I spoke to were delighted with the high quality music you performed on that night. Having worked for almost twenty years in hotels and most of the time in food and beverage, I can say confidently that your attitude has been exemplary, which is not always the case with artists! We hope to be able to work again in the future. I remain in the meantime,

Welcome to my tribute website of legendary Nashville bassist, Bob Loyce Moore (who happens to be my father). Here you will find a large archive of musical information, rare photographs and memorabilia, and collected data relating to over 50 years of historic recordings and performances.
boogie woogie country man bob moore's lap The Killer on a memorable episode of "Nashville Now" in late 1985 doing "Boogie Woogie Country Man" with yellow glasses and gloves on. He also did "CC Rider" and "Why You Been Gone So Long".
If one copy of every record on which he performed were placed end to end, they would line both sidewalks of the one-mile stretch between Owen Bradley Park and Belmont College along 16th Avenue, Nashville's famed Music Row.
The musician holding this distinction is bass player extraordinaire Mr. Bob L. Moore, who, with over 17,000 recording sessions to his credit, may well have played on more recordings than any other musician in the world. Bob's talents are heard on literally hundreds of million selling records that feature some of the greatest legends in music history. Life Magazine (special edition September 1, 1994) named Bob Moore as the number one "Country Bassist" of all time but many recognize Bob Moore as the being the best "all around" Bassist of all time. His musical experiences are as diverse as having worked on a Big Band for twenty years, performing by invitation at the Newport Jazz Festival and recording with Arthur Feidler and The Boston Pops. Bobby Moore has performed as top studio instrumentalist for decades having worked with such legendary artists as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton, Sammi Davis Jr., Quincy Jones, Andy Williams, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Johnny Halliday, Roy Orbison, Connie Frances, Burl Ives, Julie Andrews and Bob Dylan. His bold, distinctive, bass lines have graced many timeless recordings such as "Crazy" as performed by Patsy Cline, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones and "Rainy Night In Georgia," Brook Benton.
From:gbcan "The Battle of New Orleans" is the name of a song written by Jimmie Driftwood. The song details the 1815 Battle of New Orleans from the perspective of an American fighting alongside Andrew Jackson against British forces, but the tone is lighthearted. It has been recorded by many artists, but the one most often associated with this song is Johnny Horton. His version, released as a single in 1959, topped the Billboard Hot 100.
very much appreciated
