Criswell Predicts 1966! (Tonight Show with Johnny Carson)
Criswell Predicts 1966! (Tonight Show with Johnny Carson)
||| || « ( ||| || ). | |||| ||
the date is 1965 (New Year's Eve, 1966), as Criswell's appearance consumed the final 15-minutes of New Year's Eve before 1966 rang in.
The whole episode sounds amazing, the other guests included Woody Allen and the Muppets, both soon to become major figures in pop culture.
As for Criswel, he milked this shtick for all it was worth for decades, but his appearances in films by Edward D. Wood Jr. (a close friend and drinking buddy) would ultimately cement his legend.
A brilliant time capsule!

CRISWELL PARK
Here is a clip of Criswell predicting the future on the Johnny Carson show.
Criswell Predicts 1966 IS BACK!
One of my favorite characters has to be Jeron Criswell King, a pop psychic who was active in the 1960s and '70s.
Most of you probably know that he was in schlock director Ed Wood's stable of "actors," and appeared in many of his disastrous films.

2The simple truth of it is . . . that Criswell was inimitable! None that came before or after were anything like him. Criswell was possessed of a most likeable personality of singular, potent style but having little substance predictionally, although he did score a few nice 'dings' on occasion. It was that there was just something about his delivery and presence that fascinated. When young I used to watch him on 'live T.V.' and was suitably entranced, never bothering to find out if any predictions came true, as just watching him operate was enough to satisfy. He appeared with Carson a number of times., and I think maybe even with Parr? Those appearances should be found and made available to the YouTube family of Criswellian Loyalists. One day in the summer in Hollywood way-back-when, I saw him watering his Selma house lawn. This place consisted of two parts, each having in large letters painted on their sides: "Criswell Predicts - Unit 1 - Unit 2" !?! We waved and he waved back. I was too star-struck to do anything more. Then it was on to Johnny's Steak House for a cheap but good one. At that time I'd no idea that he'd done all that work with Ed Wood and Bela only a few years before. Without any doubt, in terms of relative entertainment power in their respective areas, he was The Liberace of Predictions just as Lee was The Criswell of the Piano.

1Criswell looks like Jeffrey Jones, the actor who was in many Tim Burton movies until he got in trouble for the last major sin you can commit in Hollywood that gets you an absolute ban -- and no, that isn't getting drunk and making anti-Semitic and other racist comments! Seriously, the resemblance is close.
Everyone in Ed Wood did a great job playing their people. But yeah, Jones' Criswell was spot on
1well you can be made into diamonds now in 2017 and they are about the size of dice. he may have been mad as a hatter but Criswell always predicts.
1I can't tell if this is meant to be taken seriously or he's just mocking his role in Plan 9
2I can't believe that a smart entertainment like johnny Carson who would invite a fakester like him.I even read one of his stupid books at the school library in 72.I almost believed in his predictions them.As you know years later Johnny would make fun of him in a skit.It was good to see the late Ed Mcman in his dark hair as well as johnny. When i saw the tonight show the first time in 64,Bill Dana was taking Johnnies place for the moment.Today the show stinks! It's no longer a variety show which introduces new talent. No more Doc Severn type performers.Lower Budget.I avoid watching the show

Bizarre Jerry Lee Lewis sack race "All-Star Anything Goes" 1977
|
This remarkable document, preserved and extant only here, shows Jerry Lee Lewis among Billy Carter, Barbara Mandrell, Tom T. Hall, Charlie Pride, Jerry Reed, and others, wearing velour designer track-suits, standing in front of a faux-plantation-style edifice at Six Flags over Georgia, 1972, subsequent to the finish of the "Great Race" A&R pillowcase/sack race competition, between RCA and Mercury Records, televised as All-Star That's Amazing, hosted by the, frankly, weird Bill Dodd (in what is surely the most bizarre, Killer performance found in years) ... AND THINGS JUST GET WEIRDER FROM THERE.

The weirdest Jerry lee lewis video I've ever seen, and I've seen a few!

My thanks to killernofiller667, who either had the persistence and resourcefulness to find and upload this, or was the luckiest Jerry Lee Fan on the Internet for stumbling on it--the way I felt after first thinking it was just a spam alert, until I saw what didn't look like Jerry Lee, but was definitely his voice--that's when I knew for sure ...
