Jamie：You were getting on very well with that blonde girl at the club last night.

Vernon：I certainly was. She was really good looking. But it didn't go any further.

Jamie：You didn't ask her for a date? What's wrong with you?

Vernon：It sure was. It was a pity really. She was very attractive otherwise.

多學一點點金髮女郎

傑米有點羨慕威爾南：You were getting on very well with that blonde girl。英文blond、blonde二字，都是從法文借來，指「有金髮的（白人）」，blond用於男性，blonde用於女性，同樣可作形容詞或名詞，例如a blond man（金髮男人）、a blonde woman（金髮女人）、He is a blond（他是個金髮男人）、She is a blonde（她是個金髮女人）等。
不過，現代英文形容詞習慣不分性別，所以blond、blonde這兩個形容詞不分性別使用也可以，例如a blonde man、a blond woman等。至於名詞，blond也可以指女人，但blonde 則不會是男人。
事實上，blond、blonde二字一般都是用來說女人。西方人多認為金髮特別誘人。美國性感偶像瑪麗蓮夢露的一部電影就叫做《Gentlemen Prefer Blondes》（金髮女郎，君子所愛）。英文還有一句成語：Blondes have more fun。這是說，「金髮女郎較為開心快意」，因為較多男人向她們獻殷勤。
威爾南解釋沒有追求那金髮女郎的原因：She had really bad breath。Bad breath 也作foul breath，指口臭，例如：He chewed gum to hide his bad breath （他嚼口香糖掩蓋口臭）。口臭會令人倒胃，所以傑米說：That must have been a real turn-off。Turn off是「使人失去興趣」、「使人倒胃」的意思，加上連字號(hyphen)即成名詞，指使人失去興趣或倒胃的事物，例如：Her affectation really turned me off/ I found her affectation a real turn-off（她矯揉造作，令我很不喜歡）。
