Del Lago's COCAINE RESTAURANT (vintage commercial 1976) BATON ROUGE

Del Lago: Baton Rouge first cocaine restaurant (vintage ad)

can you spot Barry Seals?

Vintage Baton Rouge "Del Lago" restaurant/dance club, coke scene commercial, 1976. what I know about Del Lago's: As the commercial indicates, it was the only hip establishment in Baton Rouge, maybe even New Orleans, at the time ca. '76, till closing in the 80s (or since). it took the place of Ruth's Chris now, as having been the den of choice for LA politicians, governors, mistresses, prostitutes, and plain old rich folks, who wanted to spend money, be seen, and party their asses off. Unlike Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Baton Rouge, Del Lago's was BR's first "cocaine scene." Their is also the famous story of David Bowie visiting after one of his 70s concerts at the Assembly Center, now called PMRC, meeting a busty woman and having a real good time. Located where Ninfa's Mexican Restaurant is on Constitution Avenue, near College Drive and I-10. Alan Boudreaux R.u. Allman Red Stick Punk Barry Seal

While the heyday of the disco era may have been the late 1970s, Del Lago—Baton Rouge’s answer to the national dance craze—was still seeing plenty of action in the early and mid-1980s. Locals may remember it fondly for the elevated dance floor in the center of the club or for its cheesy television commercials. In the late 1980s Del Lago closed and is now the site of Ruth’s Chris.

i can't stop thinking about how un-Baton Rouge this ad is (it even gleebs Rebel Rebel)!  Hopefully the administrators will allow it for its historical context; as this badass little spot must have expanded some Red Stick housewives' minds in 1976.  One year before the Sex Pistols came to town, this shit was goin' down.  A COCAINE RESTAURANT/NIGHTCLUB IN BATON ROUGE!  (my friend @Edwin Neil worked their starting around 1980.) here's what i wrote last night:  "Vintage Baton Rouge "Del Lago" restaurant/dance club, coke scene commercial, 1976. And now Bennet Rhodes knows why I tagged Barry Seal. Please submit your own or friends' stories about this storied den of iniquity. i'll use it for my post, so as not to waste a good video. and if you like weirdass videos like this, this guy's channel where this lives has a bottomless supply of Baton Rouge commercials.

“I’d been getting bored with the stereotyped changes that were being used… and I kept thinking there’s bound to be something else. I could hear it sometimes. I couldn’t play it… I was working over ‘Cherokee,’ and, as I did, I found that by using the higher intervals of a chord as a melody line and backing them with appropriately related changes, I could play the thing I’d been hearing.
