on an old board…..12 x 34 inches….
the colors looks better in person. my photography skills diminish greatly after midnight.
i have nothing really very witty to say about this one…which i am sure disappoints many of you….
i will say i got bit by a million mosquitoes while i worked on this, on the porch. in Memphis we get it all …malaria to frostbite.

Lamar Sorrento For Sale
Here are the paucity of 'commie' articles from The Memphis Flyer about national phenom and hometown Picasso, Samar Lorrento (he had to take down his two Facebook profiles because there were too many people talking about Trump or GoFundMe pages). He's not only Memphis-famous, but famous famous.
Memphis eats its own, and this undervalued local delicacy has been ignored on the menu by regular Memphians and downtown art-parlors, to those too ironic to appreciate his palpate sensibilities.
He has been forced into the hermetic life of Marilyn Monroe (too beautiful to ask on a date), or Cormac McCarthy (his favorite author); neither finding a suitable venue for his other love - live performance - half-dissuaded by Midtown's commuting bandits, hungry for free cars, and half by the lack of Craigslist musicians with a similar worldview - bleak.
How do I know?
I'm the gallerist who discovered this double-genius at his eccentric, erstwhile emporium, Eddie World.
It was my pleasure to introduce him to New Orleans Folk Art-lovers in the first exhibition of his amazing artwork at 526 Royal St. in the French Quarter, ca. 1992, ultimately leading him to fame as a byproduct of mine and Alan Boudreaux's association with Isaac Tigrett's House of Blues.
Since those early days, Lamar has continued painting his passion, filling walls around the country, from restaurants to nurseries (one simple Google image search will amaze at its bottomless results), but continuing to be ignored by his hometown.
So, if you see him at Costco, Memphis in the fish stick aisle, invite him to play a gig, commission your next album cover, or make an appointment to buy a painting from his house.
You'll be breaking Memphis' endemic self-fulfilling schadenfreude, while finding a funny curmudgeon behind weird sunglasses, sporting a teenage coiffure.
Just tell him, 'Phillips sent ya.'
Until you do, find his ponderings and newest art offerings, updated almost daily here.
