See also: Donkey Punch (Robot Chicken episode)Donkey punch is a slang term for an apocryphal and potentially lethal[1] sexual practice supposedly performed during anal sex. The purported practice involves the penetrating partner punching the receiving partner in the back of the head or neck (what is known in boxing as a rabbit punch, after a technique to kill rabbits)); the alleged goal is to cause the receiving partner's anal passage to tense up, thereby increasing the pleasure of the penetrating partner;[2] however, as stated below, there is no medical evidence that it works, or for that matter any reason that it would. When used, the donkey punch is almost exclusively executed during or just before the orgasm of the penetrating partner.[3]
There is some controversy concerning whether the initial sexual act is restricted to anal sex prior to the donkey punch, or whether muscular contraction after the blow to the back of the head or neck during vaginal sex can also qualify as a donkey punch. It has even been proposed that a possible use of the donkey punch is to create a situation in which there can be a "surprise anal penetration" tantamount to sexual assault or rape.[4]

Sex advice columnist Dan Savage discussed the donkey punch in his October 25, 2006 "Savage Love" column. He wrote, "attempting a Donkey Punch can lead to ... unpleasant outcomes," including "injury, death, or incarceration;" he also pointed out that it "doesn't even work." He quoted Dr. Jeffrey Bahr, a faculty member at the Medical College of Wisconsin,
“ To the best of my knowledge, there is no definitive reflex in the human neurophysiology that induces involuntary tightening of the anal sphincter after receiving blunt-force trauma to the occiput, or back of the head.... Trauma to any part of the skull can have serious ramifications. Pain, intracranial hemorrhage, memory loss, neck injury, and possibly some related sensory deficits in the arms and legs. A strong enough blow to the back of an unsuspecting person's head could result in a vertebral fracture which, I hope most people know, could cause paralysis or even death. ” In pornography
Gia Paloma was the first known recipient of a donkey punch in a pornographic film. Alex Sanders punched her in the back of the head in Guttermouths 30, released in 2004 by JM Productions. The sex act was previously thought to be an urban legend.[5]
In 2005 JM Productions released the film Donkey Punch. Actress Alex Devine reportedly posted on ExtremeGirlForum.com that "Donkey Punch was the most brutal, depressing, scary scene that I have ever done." Although she initially agreed to be hit on the head during the scene, she claimed to have misunderstood exactly how physical the scene would be. [6]

Non-sexual usage
Donkey punch was also one of several slang names for trades conducted by Enron.
In the scandal over Enron's manipulation of the electricity market in California; fraudulent schemes designed by Enron traders were given "colorful names" including "Donkey Punch".[8] U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, in a 2004 press release about the Enron hearings, identified the Donkey Punch as "a crude pornographic term", one of many "lewd acts" that Enron employees used to describe their schemes. Cantwell asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to take down the e-mails that were on its website due to the content.[9]
