Berlin-Wall

Picture shows me and the Berlin Wall in summer 1979

This site is dedicated to the Berlin-Wall. My very first love. I loved him since he was born (in 1961), and he still is very dear to me. But looking at photos of the Berlin Wall didn't prepare me for when I first met him in 1977. Seeing him for real, being close to him, touching him.......mere words cannot describe my ecstasy. To me 9th of November 1989 was a catastrophe. Watching television coverage of my husband being torn apart. I can never forgive them for doing that. If you would like a further insight into my relationship with the Berlin Wall, I suggest you take a look at the Why The Berlin Wall and other constructions?.

The Berlin-Wall at Harzer Straße

The Berlin Wall at Harzer Straße, photo taken at my first visit to Berlin in 1977. This shows the original Wall built in 1961. I am especially fond of these old parts of the Berlin-Wall...

The Berlin-Wall at Harzer Straße, between the Walls

This picture is also the Berlin Wall at Harzer Straße, but between the Walls. To the right a newer Wall. This picture is taken from East Berlin side with other words. I wanted to see what the Wall looked like from East, and also needed some pictures for model building.

The Berlin-Wall Ebert Str

The Berlin Wall at Ebert Straße. Here with support Wall.
The total height 3,65 meters. Each of the Wall modules are 1,20 meters width, height of each module without the tube is 3,60 meters, the support platform is 1,60 meters width. Width of the actual Wall is 12 centimeters at the top and 22 centimeters at the base. The DDR official name of these modules are "Stützwandelement U" which means "support Wall module".
Photo taken in January 1982.

The Berlin-Wall at Potsdamer PLatz

The Berlin Wall at Potsdamer Platz, picture most likely taken around 1962. Two more concrete "brick layers", actually concrete beams on the top of the Wall, plus the Y-supports for the barbed wire. On the original Wall (from 1961) there were not these two concrete beams neither the Y-supports. There were bended iron-bars with barbed wire - towards west.

The Berlin Wall Bernauer Str

The Berlin Wall at Bernauer Straße. Picture taken in 1977, new section of the Wall being put up. Here with the support platform towards the west side. Normally the support platform is towards "friend side" = the east side. These modules are standing in a 10 centimeters concrete layer.
Photo taken in 1977.

The Berlin-Wall at Chaussee Straße

The Berlin Wall at Chaussee Straße. This picture also shows the original Wall built in 1961. In front of the Wall the original Fence DDR put up at 13th of August 1961. In 1966 DDR started to replace these old parts of the Wall with more modern Wall - with concrete segments between H-beams of iron or concrete (at some parts of the Wall). Like I wrote at the tope of the page, I am especially fond of these old parts of the Wall - with the Y-supports and barbed wire, concrete building elements, bricks etc...
I would like to dedicate a small poem for this image of the Wall.
The Berlin Wall - you are my lover and my best friend!
Your bricks give ME the strength I need in life!

Because of demands from the French military government soviet engineer troops have Friday morning the 2nd of September 1961 moved back the Wall about 10 meters at the sector border on Klempke Straße in Reinickendorf, which turned out to be in the French sector.
The photo shows about ten meters of The Wall moved back.
