Cecilia Casals - Woman Sets Self On Fire In Mall R.I.P. Cecilia Casals Aug 19 2009 http://trouble.pwblogs.com/2009/08/19/rip-cecilia-casals/ Cecilia Casals, 43, went to the Mall of the Americas in Miami, where her daughter worked, and set herself on fire. She was ablaze for about two and a half minutes, during which she reportedly walked slowly without making a sound. The flames were doused by firefighters and she was rushed to a hospital. But yesterday she died. According to news reports, she had a criminal history, mental illness and had been desperately trying to get psychiatric help, to no avail. The very sensitive NBCMiami.com features the headline: Human Torch Dies After Mall Blaze. Is that a class act or what? The real class act is John Torres who, rather than breaking out his cell phone, injured himself trying to help her. Woman Sets Herself On Fire At Mall Of The Americas A woman tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire inside the Mall of the Americas in West Miami-Dade on Thursday, August 13, 2009. A Good Samaritan pushed the woman to the ground in an attempt to extinguish the fire. Two other people used fire extinguishers to help. After the fire was out, Casals walked out of the mall and into the parking lot where firefighters found her with third-degree burns on more than 75 percent of her body. Police and fire officials are looking into a motive. Casals walked into Savage Boutique at about 3 p.m. and appeared to be drenched in gasoline when she lit herself on fire, then walked around engulfed in flames as shocked shoppers watched, authorities said. The woman's husband told @mrjyn http://twitter.com/mrjyn he did not know why his wife set herself on fire, but he did give this revealing bit of information: he said their oldest daughter worked at Savage Boutique. Eyewitness told @mrjyn http://twitter.com/mrjyn they thought it resembled something out of a movie. Three people were also injured trying to rescue her. "It looked like a big fireball," said John Torres, as he broke open a glass case to grab the fire extinguisher. "I know she lost all her clothing."

Jenkins, 32, was a fugitive suspect in the murder of his ex-wife and swimsuit-model Jasmine Fiore. The reality star was found dead of an apparent suicide at the Thunderbird Motel in Hope, British Columbia, a spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney's Office tells ET. A hotel employee found Jenkins hanged in the motel room and contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, according to the spokesperson. Canadian police will be investigating the death. Jenkins was a contestant on VH1's reality show "Megan Wants a Millionaire." Slain model had fingers, teeth removed, police said http://www.etonline.com/news/2009/08/77822/index.html August 20, 2009 | 4:53 pm A swimsuit model had her teeth and fingers removed when she was slain and placed in a suitcase, authorities said today as they announced an arrest warrant for a reality TV show contestant who allegedly killed her. The gruesome details of 28-year-old Jasmine Fiore's death come as authorities in British Columbia and the United States search for the suspect. Police believe Ryan Alexander Jenkins, who had been married to Fiore, fled into Canada sometime this morning and might be getting help from others. At a news conference at Buena Park City Hall, a Fiore family spokesman urged people not to help Jenkins. Jenkins "is an animal. What he has done to Jasmine is unspeakable," said Robert Hasman, who identified himself as a one-time boyfriend. "It's just not right... Understand who you are helping." The charge comes as officials in the United States and Canada are searching for Jenkins. He was reportedly seen late Wednesday in Bellingham, Wash., where officials believe he may have walked across the border into Canada. Jenkins Law enforcement officials said Jenkins used a boat to get to Point Roberts, Wash.,from where he then could have entered Canada on foot. Earlier today, police issued an arrest warrant for Jenkins. Officials in Washington and British Columbia are focusing their search on the border area. Jenkins, a participant on the VH1 reality program "Megan Wants a Millionaire" and the self-described chief executive of a Canadian real estate development company, was named by Buena Park police as a person of interest in the slaying of Fiore. Jenkins reported Fiore missing Saturday after they attended a San Diego poker tournament. Her body was found Saturday, stuffed inside a suitcase in a trash bin in Buena Park. Canadian authorities said Wednesday that Jenkins had a previous conviction for assault on an unidentified woman. And in June, Jenkins was charged in Las Vegas with battery against Fiore, according to court records. Jenkins used his fist to strike his wife in the arm in early April, the records show. They were fighting at a hotel swimming pool when he struck her, a law enforcement source in Las Vegas said.

October 8, 1994 @mrjyn Elvis Aaron Presley was an American singer, actor, and musician. A cultural icon, he is commonly known simply as Elvis and is also sometimes referred to as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or "The King". Presley began his career in 1953 as one of the first performers of rockabilly. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing many genres, including rock and roll, gospel, blues, country, ballads and pop. To date, he is the only entertainer that has been inducted into four music halls of fame. In the 1960s, Presley made the majority of his 31 movies, most of which were poorly reviewed but financially successful musicals. In 1968, he returned to live performances in a television special, and performed across the U.S., notably in Las Vegas. In 1973, Presley staged the first global live concert via satellite (Aloha from Hawaii), reaching at least one billion viewers live and an additional 500 million on delay. Presley was an untrained musician who played guitar and piano entirely by ear. In response to that, Elvis said, I don't read music, but I know what I like." In 1956, Presley began his acting career in film. He screen-tested for Paramount Pictures by lip-synching "Blue Suede Shoes" and performing a scene as 'Bill Starbuck' in The Rainmaker. Despite being confident that The Rainmaker would be his first film role, the part went to Burt Lancaster. After signing a seven-year contract with Paramount, Presley made his big-screen début with the musical western, Love Me Tender. It was panned by the critics but did well at the box office. The majority of Presley's films were musical comedies made to "sell records and produce high revenues. He also appeared in more dramatic films, like Jailhouse Rock and King Creole. Presley movies were sometimes poorly received but none the less very popular, and he "became a film genre of his own. For those too young to have experienced Elvis Presley in his prime, todays celebration of the 25th anniversary of his death must seem peculiar. All the talentless impersonators and appalling black velvet paintings on display can make him seem little more than a perverse and distant memory. But before Elvis was camp, he was its opposite: a genuine cultural force... Elviss breakthroughs are underappreciated because in this rock-and-roll age, his hard-rocking music and sultry style have triumphed so completely." The New York Times As far as it's known, the two Kings - of Rock 'n' Roll and of Pop - never performed together. Elvis died 13 days before Michael Jackson turned 19. Lisa Marie, the common "human connection" between Elvis & Michael Jackson (Photo/wiki) Michael married Elvis' only daughter Lisa Marie in 1994, but Michael first met her in 1975 when Elvis was still alive. What we do know that the Kings had in common was their love for music and family. And the one mutual bond that they ended up having was Lisa Marie Presley. Obviously they must have been aware of each other as talents. But no source, the writer knows of, indicates if the two Kings ever met, let alone perform together. The following video may get as close to them being together as was possible. ~ If anyone knows any of the above, if the two Kings met or performed together, please indicate so in a comment.

FROM THE DOCUMENTARY: 'Les Paul - Chasing Sound!' The legendary Les Paul, father of the solid-body electric guitar, inventor of overdubbing and multi-track recording, king of the 50s pop charts and architect of rock n roll, tells his own rags-to-riches story in a performance-documentary by filmmakers John Paulson and James Arntz, with a wall-to-wall soundtrack of the greatest hits from "Tiger Rag" to "My Generation." An evocative blend of interviews, vintage film and television clips, recordings, radio show excerpts, still photographs, advertising art, personal memorabilia and a rich variety of stylish location B-roll illustrate Mr. Pauls narrative and examine his accomplishments in the distinctive in-depth style of American Masters. The intricate technology and sensuous beauty of solid-body electric guitars would not exist without the contributions of Les Paul. He gave birth to what is now, hands down, THE most influential instrument in modern American music. Les Paul has been chasing the perfect sound since his boyhood in Waukesha, Wisconsin, when he punched new chords into his mothers piano roll and turned his bedsprings into a radio antenna which would pull in the raucous jazz broadcasts from Chicago and the lonesome harmonica from the Grand Old Opry. Irascible, egotistical, indefatigable, an inveterate tinkerer and practical joker, hes the last of that self-educated, brilliantly innovative generation of musicians and media pioneers who revolutionized popular music and re-invented the global culture. At 90, Les Paul is still bursting with curiosity and brimming over with optimism, exuberance, and unadorned charm that's one-hundred percent contagious. WIKI: His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording. He was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin to George and Evelyn Polsfuss. The family name was first simplified by his mother to Polfuss before he took his stage name of Les Paul. He also used the nickname "Red Hot Red". Paul first became interested in music at the age of eight, when he began playing the harmonica. After an attempt at learning to play the banjo, he began to play the guitar. By 13, Paul was performing semi-professionally as a country-music guitarist. At the age of 17, Paul played with Rube Tronson's Texas Cowboys, and soon after he dropped out of high school to join Wolverton's Radio Band in St. Louis, Missouri on KMOX. In the 1930s, Paul worked in Chicago in radio, where he performed jazz music. Paul's first two records were released in 1936. One was credited to Rhubarb Red, Paul's hillbilly alter ego, and the other was as an accompanist for blues artist Georgia White. Murder charges in days | Michael Jackson | Cops hunt killer JACKO SHOCK: Autopsy result bombshell as cops close in on 'killer' I TRIED TO HELP: Music promoter pal Terry THE death of Michael Jackson is to become a MURDER investigation, the News of the World can reveal. An autopsy on the superstar has shown he died from an injected overdose of heavy-duty painkiller Diprivan. Police have told his family they will press charges against one or more people within DAYS and there will be a criminal TRIAL. It could involve whoever administered the injection and anyone who made it available to the star. Last week La Toya Jackson told the News of the World she knew who had murdered her brother. Yesterday's astonishing development was revealed by Terry Harvey, a long-time friend of the Jackson family, in an exclusive interview with us. Terry said: "The autopsy shows that Michael died of a drug overdose with Diprivan and a range of pills in his stomach. He had needle marks on his neck and all over his body. "The authorities have told the family the Drug Enforcement Administration are pushing for a criminal charge. "It is likely to be second-degree murder, due to the actions which led to his death. They have been assured that someone, or maybe more than one person, will be brought to trial. "The family are working with the DEA and Los Angeles Police Department to work out which doctor prescribed Michael these drugs and how far back this serious problem runs." Terry also revealed that as soon as the murder inquiry is announced the Jacksons intend to SUE AEG, the promoters behind Jacko's planned London O2 comeback shows, for £30million for "wrongful death". The family, headed by father Joe, say its bosses failed in their duty of care towards Jacko and could have saved his life. Respected music promoter Terry, currently working with girlband TLC, said: "The family is speaking about whether there is enough evidence to take a private lawsuit against the promoters or the doctors involved. "Once the criminal charges are announced, the family will file for a wrongful death lawsuit. "Joe Jackson has made no secret of his efforts to step in to get Michael to rehab while he prepared for his London shows. The question is how much did the concert organisers know about his drug problems and who was feeding him the drugs? "I can see Joe filing a lawsuit against anyone who is found to have caused fatal harm to his beloved son. "He and the rest of the family are serious about getting to the bottom of his son's death and insists it's foul play. It's no secret that AEG appointed a doctor to look after Michael's welfare." The company have claimed they did everything they could to help Jacko prepare for the 50-date tour. AEG's representatives have always insisted Jacko was fit, healthy and in "great shape" during his rehearsals. Terry is also the first member of Jackson's inner-circle to confirm the star's horrendous, long-term addiction to prescription drugs. He said Jacko died a JUNKIE thanks to daily injections of Diprivan (or Propofol) and another painkiller Vistaril, plus swallowing a cocktail of pills including anxiety drug Xanax, anti-depressants Prozac and Zoloft and anti-indigestion drug Prilosec. Terry added: "Michael had a long-term drug habit. He was no different to a drug addict living in a crack house. What he wanted was served up to him. He didn't go to the stores to get his fix, it was brought to him. He started in 1984 after he got burned filming that Pepsi advert. But in recent years it spiralled out of control and he was even self-injecting. "By the end he knew how to administer these drugs himself as he had so much medical knowledge. Now he's dead everyone is washing their hands of it. I don't believe that Michael injected himself in the neck though. "For all of these reasons, if any doctor prescribed Propofol for Michael Jackson to take at home himself that is gross wanton negligence which, as I understand it, is manslaughter." By that stage he was an addict. "He still thought he was the biggest star in the world. He did what he wanted. He felt he wasn't ready to go. "Joe went to the house at least three times to intervene, but couldn't get through to his son." Concerned Terry even offered to take care of Jacko. He said: "I begged Joe to get me into the house. Aside from the drugs Michael knew that these shows were too much for him. He needed the money, but it was all too much too soon. I knew in his heart he didn't want to and more importantly couldn't do these shows."~ nichopoulouzo

On the grounds he keeps a small menagerie that includes a llama named Louis, a boa constrictor named Muscles and a sheep named Mr. Tibbs. "I think they're sweet," says Michael in his willowy whisper of a voice. "I like to pry into their world and watch the way they move about. I just stare at them." He is equally fascinated by the world of children: "When I'm upset about a recording session, I'll dash off on my bike and ride to the schoolyard, just to be around them. When I come back to the studio, I'm ready to move mountains. Kids do that to me. It's like magic." Supercharged: Now, at 24, Jackson seems poised for another surge. He wrote and produced Diana Ross's recent Top 10 hit, "Muscles." He narrated and sang a song for the storybook album of "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial." And for "Thriller," his long-awaited sequel to "Off the Wall," he has fashioned a supercharged pop classic for the '80s—flashy, futuristic, floridly upbeat. Despite his showy style, Michael Jackson remains something of an enignia. Onstage in one of his sequined jump suits, he's a flamboyant picture of grace, a sleek jaguar ready to pounce. In photographs he's a creature of sweet sensuality, beguiling, angelic, androgynous. In person, though, he's quiet and reserved, a gangling young man of cagey reticence, with a childlike aura of wonder. Magic is the key. It's a word that Jackson uses with disarming frequency, as if to conjure up a never-never land of constant enchantment. Beethoven, Rembrandt, Charlie Chaplin—all these things to him are magic. It was certainly magic when he met E.T.: "He grabbed me, he put his arms around me. He was so real that I was talking to him. I kissed him before I left." And the magic doesn't stop there: "I have dreams to this day about flying," he says, explaining his love for Steven Spielberg's airborne Extraterrestrial. He pauses and leans forward: "We can fly, you know. We just don't now how to think the right thoughts and levitate ourselves off the ground." Michael Jackson as Peter Pan? The notion sounds ridiculous—until you consider Michael's point of view. His saga has the flavor of a modern-day fairy tale. Growing up in the dingy ghetto of Gary, Ind., the fifth child in a family of eight, he virtually stepped from his crib to the stage. He was coached by his father, a crane operator who had once played with the Falcons, an early rock band. "There was a big baseball park behind our house," recalls Michael. "You could hear the cheers of the crowd. But I never had any desire to play baseball. I would be inside working, rehearsing." At the age of five he played his first paying gig with the Jackson 5. "When we sang, people would throw all this money on the floor," says Michael—"tons of dollars, 10s, 20s, lots of change. I remember my pockets being so full of money that I couldn't keep my pants up. I'd wear a real tight belt. And I'd buy candy like crazy." Rewarded: The group began to win talent shows. Back home in Gary they took time to perform at benefits for Muigwighania, a local black-pride organization led by a man named Richard Hatcher. When Hatcher later became the city's first black mayor, he rewarded the Jacksons by spotlighting them at a 1968 civic "Soul Weekend" starring Diana Ross and the Supremes. "He won me over the first moment I saw him," Ross told NEWSWEEK in 1970. "I saw so much of myself as a child in Michael. He was performing all the time. That's the way I was. He could be my son." She convinced her boss, Berry Gordy, to audition the group for his legendary Motown label. ~ NICHOPOULOUZO

Stuffed Animals Buried for Jackson Friday, 17 Jul 2009, 3:33 PM PDT DETROIT (WJBK) - The memorial outside the Motown Museum to honor the King of Pop is gone. The stuffed animals and other mementos are now laid to rest. The plots and headstone were donated and the burial was more than many people receive. "Really, really makes my heart feel good about the city of Detroit," said one person. Stuffed animals that had been on the front lawn of Hitsville U.S.A. were loaded into hearses for a procession with police escort to Woodlawn Cemetery at Eight Mile Road and Woodward. "The pieces of our love for Michael will now go with Michael's soul," said radio host Mason. Those who came to remember Michael told us they don't think it's morbid or weird to have a headstone and a burial. "It's not morbid because the soul or the mind has to have some conclusion, some closure to the whole process of death, the transition of death," said Beverly Kindle-Walker. "I've been to many memorials all over the country and I've seen some very strange stuff, but this is befitting of the love that he had here," said William Elijah. "I grew up with Michael's music. I grew up dancing in a studio and I think I can say for everybody in the dance community, we miss him a lot," said Joelle Primeau. The cemetery director told FOX 2 they routinely donate graves to people who need them and this is not an affront. It's intended as a memorial. "You can't just through this stuff away. It's very meaningful to people," said Tracy Fowlkes-Elijah of the Midwest Memorial Group. "So, I had talked with the Motown Museum and said we've done this in the past. If you'd like, this is the offer and we think it may help you guys out because I know they weren't thinking that far ahead and it kept getting bigger and bigger." "Michael was a healer. He was a lover and just to be here is important," said Michael Jackson impersonator Tyuawn Brown. "I feel kind of good that so many people remember him and I think he will always be remembered," another person said. Finally, Detroit Police tell FOX 2 this is the first and last time taxpayers will pay for a police escort to bury mementos. There has been a policy change. Here's our questions: Intention to remember Jackson in a meaningful way is understood, but... couldn't some kids in need use the stuffed animals? How much did it cost for the head stones and plots? How much did it cost for the police escort? Sadly, we do stories every week asking our viewers to help with burials for families in need? It's fair to ask if this is the best way to remember the Motown Icon, what do you think? By JASON CARR ~ nichopoulouzo

That's what a developer in Chongqing, China hoped, when it launched a new piece of real estate by organizing a bikini contest on site. On Saturday, almost 100 girls showed up in bikinis in hopes of winning the 10,000 yuan ($2,100) grand prize money and the title of 'Golden Goddess' at the 'Bikini Fiesta', reported China News. The developers even created an artificial beach in the middle of the construction site for the event. But the unusual marketing tactic has created some backlash. Some said that the cheesy set-up and use of scantily-clad women were too low-class and vulgar, and was degrading to the women of Chongqing. But others said the marketing stunt was a success, judging from the thousands of male gawkers who showed up. China News reported that the developer placed ads in several local newspapers to attract participants and draw a sizable audience to the bikini contest. It claimed that to create the artificial beach, it imported seawater from the Mediterranean region, and sand from a beach in Cannes in France, to create a lake and 1km-long beach. The event organiser had hoped to attract one thousand bikini babes to join, but less than 100 showed up. Nevertheless, the sight of so many young women wearing bikinis was enough to attract thousands of eyeballs. The development site was packed, with many using their cameras or anglophones to film and take pictures of the women. Most of them, though, seemed to be there to look, but not to buy. A member of the public, who was identified only as Mr Jingo, said: 'The developer may be using this as a sales gimmick, but would you really buy a house just because you saw a bikini babe?

FOLLOW NICHOPOULOUZA @mrjyn @TWITTER FOR MORE BREAKING MJ VIDEO! http://twitter.com/ktla British newspapers are alleging that a 25-year-old aspiring rapper from Norway, is actually Michael Jackson's fourth child. As a child, Omer Bhatti, often traveled with Jackson and even lived at the singer's Neverland ranch. Court records show Bhatti was living at Neverland when authorities raided the estate in 2003 looking for evidence of child molestation. Bhatti was briefly interviewed by investigators and was initially on the defense's list of prospective witnesses. But he was never asked to testify. At Jackson's memorial at Staples, Bhatti was prominently seated in the front row next to the pop star's children and siblings. He is also said to be seeking a DNA test to determine whether Jackson is in fact his father. In Vienna Wednesday, Jackson's brother Jermaine said Bhatti would be welcomed into the family, if he's proven a Jackson. "If Omer's his son, he's his son," Jermaine told Britain's the Daily Mail. 'We won't deny it. We are going to give him the same love and care that we give Prince and Paris and Blanket. I can't clearly say if he is Michael's but I saw this kid around him." In 2004, Us Weekly reported that Jackson did, indeed, acknowledge that he was the father. ~ nichopoulouzo

See Elvis' Psychic Hairdresser - Uri Geller Video http://bit.ly/5GsXx and Follow Nichopoulouzo on TWITTER @mrjyn HERE http://twitter.com/mrjyn for Latest Exclusive and Weird MJ/Elvis Scoops, News and Video! If Americans remember WHERE they were when President Kennedy was assassinated, then Elvis fans (and now, Michael Jackson's) will surely remember how blind they were to the monumental excesses of drugs and isolation (surrounding themselves with guards, lackeys and servants...oh, and exactly one Psychic Spoonbending Spiritual Advisor by the name of Uri Geller. That's right, he was a "friend" to both Kings, where he either contributed to their death by either turning a blind eye (amidst all of his protestation to the contrary) to both their appetite for drugs, while preying on their vulnerability and isolation, and using both of their sincere "searching" souls to his advantage, where he isolated them, indoctrinate them into his New Age babble, and then rode their expensive coattails until, coached by a charlatan, they both indulged themselves unto themselves into early graves--Elvis 42, MJ 50. (And as you'll see from the video I uploaded tonight, Uri is again basking in the sleazy celebrity of his latest friends passing, again, assuring us all that he tried his best to protect them from the real threat. Elvis' death caused an unprecedented increase in the three Evening News broadcasts. The late-breaking story caused NBC-TV to not only lead off with the Elvis' death, but also to delay The Tonight Show for a David Brinkley hosted special. ABC followed NBC, announcing its own mini-doc. *CBS did not. CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite, 'the most respected man in broadcasting' led in the ratings for more than a decade; but when the Tiffany Network executives chose NOT to open their evening broadcast with the death of Elvis Presley, placing it after a segment on the Panama Canal (CBS devoted 70 seconds to the Elvis report), viewers switched to NBC or CBS by the millions (Arbitron - August 16, 1977). CBS' decision not to lead with the death of Elvis Presley handed its respected Evening News and Uncle Walter its lowest ratings in years. His tautological sign-off was never so poignant. Producers who blocked the lead position for the story, when subsequently interviewed, admitted to a detachment from the national consciousness relating to the story. CBS assembled a Special on August 18th. ~ nichopoulouzo thanks - TCB @ YT

Uri Geller Almost Drowns Woman on Live TV A WOMAN almost drowned trying to escape a tank filling with water on spoon-bender Uri Geller's live TV show. The contestant, Amila, was trying to prove her psychic powers by guessing a four-figure code to release her. But after two attempts she had picked just a pair of correct numbers. Millions of viewers then watched her struggling underwater for 25 seconds as the tank filled to the top. An assistant rushed on stage with bolt cutters to break into the tank on German show, The Next Uri Geller. Amila was pulled out gasping for air. Geller yesterday told The Sun he had a bad feeling about the stunt. He said: "Luckily somehow I had this instinct to shout out: 'Get her out of there quickly'." Amila was trying to read the mind of a comedian who knew the numbers. Geller said: "I felt that there was no harmony between them." But he is urging producers to let her try AGAIN next week. The show sees wannabe illusionists compete to become Geller's successor. ~ nichopoulouzo

RT @mrjyn http://bit.ly/lofiw #video #followfriday #youtube AND Follow @mrjyn http://twitter.com/mrjyn OR @nichopoulouzo ...Les Paul - Spinal Tap Jam Hey, guitar freaks: Is there a name for "one of" Les's signature 'lix' @ 1:57 1:58 1:59 ? it's like a harmonic, hammer-on, skiboodabadabble, but i know thereunto'll be some guy from Berkley or somewhere who knows the technical jargon? And while you're at it, guy from Berkley: did Les Paul invent it? And while you're chicken' that out: What are 10 guitar 'techniques' that are unique-to, or that were invented and employed-by Les Paul? thanks NICHOPOULOUZO "I was playing an apologetic, sweet little instrument that was always in the background. It had a lot to say but nobody could hear it. I was playing a little drive-in barbecue stand outside of Waukesha, and one of the guys in the rumble seat wrote a note to the carhop and said, 'Red, your voice, your jokes, your singing, your harmonica is fine, but the guitar's not loud enough.' I went home to my mother and said, 'Mom, one of the critics at the barbecue stand just lit the light for me that the guitar has to be amplified also."' LES PAUL Birthname: Lester William Polsfuss Age: 91; born June 9, 1915. Now lives in: Mahwah, N.J. Innovations: Developed prototype for solid-body electric guitar produced by Gibson; developed recording techniques such as close miking, multitracking and use of echo and delay; introduced first eight-track tape player in 1950s; built early model synthesizer. Paul wears one modern gadget when he performs. What looks like a standard hearing aid actually doubles as a miniature wireless monitor speaker that allows him to better hear his band onstage. "He's always looking at new technologies," Marty Garcia, president of Future Sonics, which makes the ear monitors. "He'll call me at 9 o'clock at night and we'll be on the phone for hours." Arthritis in his left hand prevents Paul from playing the lightning-fast scales for which he was known in his heyday, but he has adapted his style to combine chords and single-note runs. He nearly lost his right arm in a car accident in 1948, but persuaded doctors to set it at an angle that would allow him to still play the guitar. "I said, 'Aim it at my navel and I'll be just fine,"' he recalled. "The rest is history." Paul is an engaging raconteur with an extraordinary ability to recall the details of his more than seven decades in show business — like the time in the 1970s when he was approached by country-and-western star Chet Atkins..."Chet said, 'I'll play my violin and sing and you'll play your banjo and your harmonica and we'll do all the things we're not known for,"' Paul said. "Well, I was terrible on the harmonica, terrible on the banjo and I sang just as bad as I always do. And Chet was no better, so between the two of us we were horrible. I said to Chet, 'Don't you think we should do what we can do best?"' The result was a Grammy-winning album, one in an almost endless number of awards and accolades Paul has received. He is likely the only person who has been honored by separate national halls of fame for broadcasting, inventing, song writing and rock 'n' roll. The story of Paul's role in the development of the solid-body electric guitar in the 1940s has become part of rock folklore: how he fashioned an early version out of a piece of railroad track before settling on a more manageable size and weight. (Around the same time, Fullerton, Calif.-based Leo Fender was developing an electric guitar that remains Gibson's chief competitor.) Once Paul developed a reliable prototype, he immediately began to experiment with altering the basic sounds of the guitar, and laid the groundwork for the reverb pedals, flanges and other effects guitarists use today. Gibson began mass-producing the Les Paul model in 1952, and it eventually became the instrument of choice for generations of rock musicians, many of whom grew up unaware that its brand name refers to a person. More than 80 years later, his influence on popular music is incalculable, largely due to his early use of recording techniques such as multitracking, delay and echo. His 90th birthday at Carnegie Hall in 2005 drew a diverse roster of guitarists including Peter Frampton, Jose Feliciano, Steve Miller and Edgar Winter, and he collaborated with Frampton, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and others on a rock album, Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played. Waukesha (Wis.) County Historical Society, in the town where he grew up. The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History also is discussing an exhibit. "He has far more artifacts of interest and significance than any one institution could take," said John Fleckner, the Smithsonian museum's senior archivist. "There's no question that we would welcome a donation of materials from someone as significant in so many different ways as him."

It's Spring tonight. Anyway- I was looking through a printout- on quilted paper, of course- of search terms used to find my "blog." Some of them are particularly amusing. I am not a compulsive list maker, but I made a list. It's a FAQ of sorts. By the way, there was about two million search terms asking if my daughter is my daughter. I won't dignify them with an answer: 1. "Jane Lagerfeld." I am afraid that my daughter's name is "Jane Aldridge", not "Jane Lagerfeld." Actually- she was recently featured with her mother in that magazine of Anna's recently. I'm quite proud of her. Anna's trying to make friends with Jane, because Anna thinks she is "cool" and "hip"- she's been looking up this "David Lynch" trying to work out who he is. It's vaguely cute, in a middle-aged way. 2. "Karl Lagerfeld no glasses." You abomination. It's sheer blasphemy to want to see me without my sunglasses! What sort of sicko would want to do something like this? 3. "Anna Wintour Lesbian." My Coco. How many sickos and weirdos read this blog? I can already imagine them- their fantasies of I, Karl Lagerfeld with my glasses off and Anna making out with Cathy "Ohio" Horyn in a bikini. Sick. 4. "Juicy Couture Ghetto" Go away from my blog, please. 5. "Women making love." You know, I used to think that gay men read this blog, but I'm more and more convinced that 90% of my readership are actually lesbians. 6. "Diane Pernet is creepy." Not nearly as creepy as you, you lesbian-glasses-off-Juicy-Couture-Ghetto-creep. 7. "Don't mess with a feminist." Well now. Who said I wasn't a feminist? Is this a threat, hmm? Chanel can track you on the internet, you know. I have lawyers. Lawyers carry guns these days. 8. "Does Karl Lagerfeld speak English." No. 9. "Does Karl Lagerfeld fear someone else can design better than him." No. 10. "Every woman I couldn't love." Maybe you're gay, hm? 11. "Hannibal Karl Lagerfeld." Why hello there, Clarice. 12. "How to make love with the girl of my uncle."| That, my dear, would be called inscest and is frowned upon in most parts of the world. 13. "Is Anna Wintour a lesbian." See above. 14. "My heart still yearns for your letters." Get over it. It was in the past. Move on. The past is for losers. 15. "Why can't I show affection." Maybe you're a sociopath! Follow Jane @awhitelodge
