Now the Daily Mail has learned that 1970s pop superstar David Essex has married for a third time - to a pretty brunette co-star.

At the age of 63 and a grandfather-of-three, Essex has wed Susan Hallam-Wright - who is 26 years his junior.

David Essex

The couple met during the nationwide tour of musical All The Fun Of The Fair at the end of 2008 and the Daily Mail revealed they were engaged two months ago.

The wed in a private ceremony at a church on the outskirts of a small north Welsh village on Monday in front of fewer than 30 close friends and family.

Last night, Essex confirmed the marriage to the Daily Mail. He said: 'Yes, it was a wonderful, small, private wedding.'

The star wed Miss Hallam-Wright under his real name David Cook at St Cross Church in Talybont, outside Bangor.

The wedding party then enjoyed a small evening reception at the luxury Treysgawen Hall Hotel at Capel Coch, near Llangefni, on Anglesey.

The couple chose the 19th century Church of Wales place of worship as the bride's grandfather was a former archdeacon in the area.

A source said: "They wanted a private ceremony and chose to come to Wales due to Susan's family connection with the area.

"It was a quiet ceremony in front of a close knit group of friends and family before a lovely reception at Treysgawen. It was a wonderful day for them both."

The pair became close after appearing together in Essex's musical All The Fun Of The Fair, which is currently running at the Garrick Theatre in central London.

Pretty brunette Susan, 37, was playing Mary, the girlfriend of the son of Essex's character, fairground owner Levi.

The Daily Mail revealed in July how the pair had become engaged.

At the time, he revealed: 'I met Susan about a year-and-a-half ago when we did the All The Fun Of The Fair tour.

We got on very well. We got engaged last Christmas. There's no planned date for a wedding - but we're very happy.'

Essex and Miss Hallam-Wright - who hails from Sidcup, Kent - live together in his two-bedroom flat in Covent Garden, central London.

Essex's big break came in 1971 when he was cast as the lead - and so the first person permitted to play Jesus Christ by the Lord Chamberlain's office - in the massive West End hit Godspell.

A pop career soon followed - and Essex scored huge hits with tracks such as Rock On, Gonna Make You A Star, Hold Me Close, Oh What A Circus, Silver Dream Machine (Part 1) and A Winter's Tale.

He had a successful film career, notable movies including That'll Be The Day, Stardust and Silver Dream Racer. He also continued to perform in the theatre, starring in roles including Che Guevara in Evita.

During his heyday, Essex was Britain's biggest pop pin-up. Indeed, at the height of his fame police would use dustbin lids for shields. And at one concert, a fan risked her life by jumping 20 feet from a box seat just to get near him - and survived.

Essex's pop career also helped earn him a fortune. At one point, he had 12 houses and 100 motorbikes.

Speaking of ageing, Essex - who was awarded an OBE in 1999 for his role as an ambassador for the Voluntary Service Overseas - said: 'I like where I am now; I do things on my terms, and everything's still in good working order.

David Essex has been married twice before.

He wed childhood sweetheart Maureen Neal in 1970. They had two children together, Verity, 38, and Danny, 33.

They, though, separated in 1979 but did not divorce for another 17 years.

Speaking of his first marriage, Essex has said: 'I dunno if we were too young; possibly. I'm still great friends with my first wife. I care very much about people who have been in my life. I don't just turn off.'

After his first marriage collapsed, Essex had his wild years of sexual excess.

It was said there were times when a satisfied-looking girlfriend would exit through the back door of his London flat as another arrived.

He has said since: 'That was a lively period. It was something I needed to get out of my system but I never let any of them think it was more important than it was.

During this time, he had affairs with Hot Gossip dancers Donna Fielding and Penni Dunlop and lived for a time with pop singer Sinitta, who believed he would marry her.

However, he never had any intention of marrying any of them, because he conveniently hadn't got divorced from Maureen.

In 1984, he fell for American singer Carlotta Christy, after they met while he was living in New York.

Four years later, she gave birth to the couple's twin sons Kit and Billy, both now 22.

After he had finally divorced Miss Neal, he then married Miss Christy at a tiny registry office ceremony in 1997.

They had lived in the U.S., where she raised their sons, and he divided his time between London and their New England home

They, though, had quietly divorced by the autumn of 2008.

He once said he could never imagine himself with one woman forever.

ELF GIRL (reviewed on October 1, 2011)

New York City woman-about-town’s memoir about her life-as-performance-art quest to be fashionably “uncool.”

Inspired by her experiences as a Bloomingdale’s Christmas elf, art-school grad and downtown NYC scenester Rev Jen (Live Nude Elf, 2009) began carefully forming her uncool identity in the early ’90s by wearing Spock-like elf-ear attachments. Recalling her days as a young Lower East Side denizen in the mid-’90s, Jen describes her tame arty antics as grand, anarchic gestures of rebellion against the fusty establishment. She became known for her reactionary Anti-Slam poetry night, which fostered an environment of cuddly uncritical acceptance for wannabe slam-poets with a strict set of rules against any kind of harassment from the audience. Her promotion of art-damaged egalitarianism extended to her creation of an all-admission clique called the “Art Stars,” which turned out to be little more than an alcoholic support group for directionless art-scene dregs. In between her persistently meaningless nightlife activities, she drifted from one low-paying job to the next, drank a lot, had sex with men who treated her badly, and experimented with LSD, all while managing to pay rent on her LES apartment. Rev Jen is perpetually obsessed with what’s “cool” and what’s “uncool,” and her actions always end up blurring the line between the two. Although she styled herself as an outcast rebelling against the prevailing highbrow culture of the day, the author seemed ultimately reluctant to mix with truly unhip people: like, say, her schoolmates who listened to Phil Collins and the Republican rednecks who frightened her at a Charlie Daniels concert. Naturally, as she attained local celeb status for being a kitsch-loving contrarian, she finally got to frolic among extremely “cool” people: namely, transgressive filmmaker Nick Zedd and hyper-confessional author Jonathan Ames, among others.

Largely forgettable.
