| The Origin of Halloween The idea of observing October 31st as a holiday originated with the ancient Celtic priests, called "Druids", around 300 B.C. The Druids lived in the area between Great Britain and Germany. Their new year began on November 1st, so October 31st was set aside to worship their god, Samhain, the god of the dead. So October 31st was the Celtic New Year's Eve, the time for their Festival of Death. The Druids believed that Samhain gathered all the souls of the past year's dead on this night. These souls had been confined to the bodies of various animals to atone for their sins. Animal sacrifices and even human sacrifices were carried out , usually in forests. This practice was observed until around 61 A.D. when it was outlawed by the Romans. However, some animal sacrifices were still practiced as late as 400 A.D. The Druids taught that the spirit world was closer to the earth on this night than at any other time, and that "the gods" would even appear on this night to play tricks on people. Pope Bonoface III, in the seventh century, set aside May 13th as "All Saints Day" or "All Hallows Day" as a time for Roman Catholics to honor all known dead saints. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III moved the date to November 1st which conveniently merged "All Hallows Day" and "All Hallows Eve" with the Celtic New Year and the Festival of Samhain. This custom wasn't much observed in America until the 1840's when large numbers of immigrants came over from Ireland and Scotland. The Pagan Customs and Characters Halloween is filled with all sorts of pagan characters and customs that Christians need to avoid. The black cat, for example, was believed by the Druids to be evil spirit friends of witches, and even witches themselves. These cats were often kept in wicker cages and burned in animal sacrifices. Witches are worshipers of Satan, and they are an abomination to God (Exo. 22:18; Deu. 18:10-11). Why would a God-fearing Christian want to dress-up their child like something that God hates? Scary masks were worn by the Celts to scare away evil spirits. The jack-o-lantern was used for the same purpose, although a turnip was originally used. What the world thinks of as "ghosts" are not the spirits of dead people, but rather EVIL spirits which we are warned about in the Bible (Lev. 19:31; 20:27; II Kgs. 23:24; Mat. 10:1; Mar. 3:11; Acts 8:7; Rev. 16:13). Why would a Christian want to decorate their home with such wickedness? Does God want you to dress your child up like an evil spirit? Even the orange and black colors of Halloween have a wicked origin. At the Druid Festival of Death for Samhain huge bon fires were used for offering human and animal sacrifices. So the colors of the night were orange flames glowing in the dark. Trick-or-treating finds it's origin in the custom of peasants going house to house begging for money to purchase necessities for a feast for Muck Olla, the Druid sun god. A blessing was promised to generous givers, while threats were often made to those who were stingy. Apple bobbing probably comes from the Roman festival of Pomona, the goddess of fruit and trees. This festival was merged with the festival of Samhain after Rome conquered Britain. In honor of Samhain, subjects were forced to bob for apples in boiling hot water. Those who lived through this ordeal were set free. Friend, Halloween is Satanic! You may pretend that it's a harmless game for kids, but in reality it represents paganism, Satanism, human sacrifice, torture, rape, murder, idolatry, witchcraft, and spiritualism! Did you know that October 31st is considered by Satanists to be their most important day of the year? Friend, WAKE UP! Don't honor the Devil! Honor God instead by refusing to observe Halloween this year. The Lord Jesus Christ wouldn't dress innocent children up like the devils of Hell and march them around town, so why should you? Are you a TRUE follower of Jesus Christ? Then SKIP Halloween this year and tell others to do likewise! "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;" (I Tim. 4:1) Have You Been Saved? Jesus Christ came into this world to lay down His sinless life for YOU--to pay for your sins because you couldn't. Jesus is your only hope for salvation. Only by receiving Him as your Saviour can you enter the gates of Heaven. There is no other way. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6) "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) The Lord Jesus Christ has come and PAID for your sins by shedding His own Blood on Calvary. By receiving Him as your Saviour, you can be WASHED from all your sins in His precious Blood (Rev. 1:5; Col. 1:14; Acts 20:28; I Pet. 1:18-19). Notice these important words from Romans 5:8-9: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Jesus PAID your way to Heaven for you! By receiving Him as your Saviour, you will be receiving God's ONLY means of Salvation. Are you willing to forsake YOUR righteousness and receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your ONLY HOPE for Salvation? Romans 10:13 says, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Are you willing to forsake your own righteousness, and ask Jesus Christ to save you? Why not pray right now and ask the Lord to come into your heart and cleanse you from all sin. He will save you just as He promised. |

well...it's "the dark" may make it tough to tell who owns one's heart, but this work of art sure makes some profound statements about Who DOESN'T own it. I am sure this sells though...I'd say if Miley's trying to project a new and edgy image, she's doing a fantastic job! I can't help wondering in times like this what She will be like when she's in her mid 30s...what image will she want then, and will she have to try this hard to sell it at THAT stage?

Walt, your efforts to keep us informed and thinking biblically are so important. Keep reminding us of the patterns of the world (project a "pure" image to parents with a young artist, then turn them against their parents, etc) against the truth of Scripture. Your work is so valuable to my ministries parents and kids!

I look at this and realize a girl who has been seduced and manipulated to play a role she is not comfortable with and you can see this on her face throughout the video. The immaturity of this girls of the lyrics and songs are still caught in the hanna montana days. Here is my question: Where is her father? A man who knows the business the dangers and snairs of it, the man who introduced her to fame and the lifestyle has obviously retreated from the frontlines of fighting for the purity of this girls life and and purity. If the talent was there to reach an older demogrohics then she wouldnt have to entice them through this and shame on her father for watching this happen.

As I listened all I seemed to hear was her confessing that she knows what she's doing is wrong, but the dark is just so alluring she can't resist. At least she's honest when she asks if it's love or just the dark. Jonathan McKee blogged just the other day about his experience chaperoning a high school dance - this video seems to totally reinforce what he was saying: the people putting the dances together say "no dirty dancing" but then they play songs like this, which tells the students "It's ok to give in to the dark, it's more fun that way." So disappointing...

this breaks my heart. while we do not watch a ton of TV, my daughter remember watching the hannah montanna show and loved the music (she only heard it on the show). this week we discussed what she is doing and told her that hannah montanna would not be allowed in our house. my oldest daughter cried. not because she was lost something (well maybe a little) then she cried that she has turned into this. I encouraged her to write a letter explaining the truth to Hannah (I know not her name) and telling her how she feels.

Here is a way out there thought I had the moment I heard the song. We know that in the past she has claimed to be a Christian. What if this song is referring to the struggle she is having inside to let God, who is love, or art, her music, rule her heart. I am probably wrong.

It is very diheartening to see a young lady, who had such promise and potential, follow the way of the world and pervert her God-given gift. I have two young girls (9 and 7) who adore "Hannah Montana." I can truthfully say that they will watch her no more. I try to control the amount of "adult" influence they see in TV and music. Hannah has gone from being a good, wholesome influence to being a worldly, very adult, influence. Again, such a shame and a waste.

Who didn't see this coming? Our music culture claims this is "just how its done" to sell a song/cd etc... It's owned by pagans who are just using the same old tools with a fresh young face to make money. It will always be this way.
There will always be a conflict between the way Christians and those in Hollywood see what they do. Hollywood draws a distinction between your performance on stage or camera and who you are in real life. So you can "act" in character in front of the camera because it's all "art". But in real life it's not who you really are.
Christians put their whole life under the umbrella of the Kingdom of God. So even in being an "actor" or "musician/performer", the behavior should be in keeping with purity and biblical values.
The conversation of "where do you draw the line" is a dynamic one because of the personal nature of it. It's a place for wisdom and discernment. For what it's worth, I think the line you draw for yourself or as a Christian actor should also be the same line for what you, as a Christian, would be ok to watch on TV, movies etc.
I guess it just makes sense to me not to condemn an actor for an action that you were willing to pay for and watch.

Although I agree that this is a very disappointing portrayal of how the youth and Miley have become so crude and immoral. However, I find the fact that a couple Christ-followers that have commented here have found it appropriate to judge "who doesn't own [Miley's] heart". To me, that's the biggest let down of all, not the video. We all sin, we all stumble; that doesn't mean we no longer have Christ in our heart. Let is use caution in how we judge other Christians for the Word says we shall be judged by the same measure- Matthew 7:2.

This quote would be a great discussion starter with our youth especially in light of Paul's words in Eph. 2:10, For we are God's workmanship (his poem), created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

One of the top songs of the 70's was “Hotel California” (1976) by the Eagles. Most people have no idea that the song refers to the Church of Satan, which happens to be located in a converted HOTEL on CALIFORNIA street!

People say, the Eagles aren't serious, they're just selling records. That's what you think! I've heard some pretty lame explanations of what these lyrics mean. Anyone who is familiar with the Bible knows that the Beast is the coming Antichrist (Revelation 20:10). Witchcraft lyrics are deliberately written in short incomplete phrases, to convey ideas without detection. Elton John collaborated with Bernie Taupin, a witch, to incorporate witchcraft lyrics into all his earlier music. Even The Beach Boys were admittedly practicing witchcraft and trying to create witchcraft music back in the 1960's. There is MUCH witchcraft lyrics in secular music, dark sayings, which convey unholy ideas into the listener's mind.

What do you think this music is doing? As shocking and amazing as this all is, I still have web visitors write to me, attempting to defend Rock 'N' Roll music. Even professed Christians attempt to defend their so-called Christian Rock. All Rock music is demonic. It's the music itself as Michael Jackson admitted in the quotes I just presented to you. In the case of Michael Jackson's music, it is sensual and highly addictive to the flesh (i.e., body).
Hard Rock is addictive to the nervous system and every Rock addict understands the urgent crave for Rock's thundering power chords, mastered by bands like AC/DC, Van Halen and Iron Maiden. Oh listen friend, Satan wants to sift you as wheat just as Jesus warned the Apostle Peter. Satan wants to kill, steal and destroy your life (John 10:10). And he will if you let him!
People who listen to Rock 'N' Roll don't even realize that they're being influenced by the music. Where did America's culture of sexual immorality come from? It came from Rock 'N' Roll. As a consequence of such unholy, reckless and irresponsibly living which Rock music produces, abortion has become commonplace. Proper courtship is a thing of the past. Fornication, nudity and lewd behavior are prevalent in America!
Carlos Santana has his own personal demonic god, Metatron. Here is a disturbing excerpt from Rolling Stone magazine...

Sorcerers will go to the lake of fire. Do you allow your children to watch occultic "family" movies and videos? Do you let them read such books? You are selling your own child into the hand of the devil.

Jeremiah 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, LEARN NOT THE WAY of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
The latter part of the above verse speaks to astrology ("astrologer" is a Bible word as are "magician", "stargazers", "monthly prognosticators", etc.). People who claim to the know the Lord (and their children) call 900 numbers, get palms read, etc. They seek unto them that have familiar spirits and unto wizards that peep and that mutter (ref Is 8:19) INSTEAD of living righteously and seeking after God. By their fruits ye shall know them.

What is Halloween really all about?
Have you ever asked yourself, "Who in the world ever thought of the idea of walking around in weird costumes, trick or treating, and/or putting a carved-out pumpkin in your window?" 
Where and when did Halloween customs originate? The many customs we have today in relation to Halloween have their origins in the religious practices of the Romans and the Druids, therefore dating back many centuries. The Romans worshiped various gods and on October 31, a special feast was held in honor of Pomona, goddess of the fruit trees. Later, the Druids, an ancient order of Celtic priests in Britain, made this feast an even more extensive celebration by also honoring Samhain, lord of the dead. This was normally done on November 1 and it was therefore decided to conveniently honor both Pomona and Samhain on October 31 and November 1. These Druids believed that on the night before November 1 (October 31) Samhain called together wicked souls or spirits which had been condemned to live in the bodies of animals during the year which had just transpired. Since they were afraid of these spirits, they chose October 31 as a day to sacrifice to their gods, hoping they would protect them. They really believed that on this day they were surrounded by strange spirits, ghosts, witches, fairies, and elves, who came out to hurt them. In addition to this, they also believed that cats were holy animals, as they considered them to represent people who lived formerly, and as punishment for evil deeds were reincarnated as a cat. All this explains why witches, ghosts, and cats are a part of Halloween today. The custom of trick-or-treating and the use of "jack-o'-lanterns" comes from Ireland. Hundreds of years ago, Irish farmers went from house to house, begging for food, in the name of their ancient gods, to be used at the village Halloween celebration. They would promise good luck to those who gave them good, and made threats to those who refused to give. They simply told the people, "You treat me, or else I will trick you!" The apparently harmless lightened pumpkin face or "jack-o'-lantern" actually is an old Irish symbol of damned soul. A man named Jack was supposed to be able unable to enter heaven due to his miserliness, and unable to enter hell because he had played practice jokes on the devil. As a result, he was condemned to wander over the earth with his lantern until judgment day (i.e., the end of the world). The Irish were so afraid that they would receive an identical plight, that they began to hollow out pumpkins and place lighted candles inside to scare away evil spirits from their home.
When did the modern Halloween celebration begin? 
An alternative for October 31 For many in this land, this day stands for the very opposite of fear!! On this day in 1517, a German monk and professor of theology, Dr. Martin Luther, courageously published the simple, straightforward truth of the Bible. God's Word, which he has rediscovered after a long and intense spiritual struggle. God used the truth of his own Word to give Luther the inner peace he had so desperately longed for. The Bible pointed him the way to God Himself, and when he found God through Jesus Christ, he found this peace which passes all understanding! He himself stated that it was as if he entered Paradise itself. As a result of his courageous act on October 31, 1517, the Bible came into the hands of the common people again, and many, who as he, were deeply troubled by sin and it's consequences, found peace with God as well! It was God himself, Who used Martin Luther to bring His message of deliverance into the hands and hearts of sinners, in order to bring them back to Himself, and give then TRUE peace!! It is therefore with deep gratitude to God that we wish commemorate October 31, as it reminds us of God's gracious and mighty deeds nearly five centuries ago. It is the Word of God, and its precious truth, rediscover by Martin Luther, which still gives true peace to many today. In the Bible ALONE will you find the ONLY answer to the deep yearning of your heart. ONLY when God becomes your God through Jesus Christ, you will find rest at last and you will answer to the true purpose of human existence, namely, to honor, serve, and enjoy our Creator!! Is the God of heaven and earth YOUR God? If not, seek Him TODAY, while He still may be found!! God, manifested in Jesus Christ, invited you Himself in His Word. Turn to the gospel of Matthew and read chapter 11:28, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest!" Those who insist on seeking inner peace without being reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, will have to endure eternal misery without God. God does not desire the eternal misery of man and therefore He also extends this invitation in Ezekiel 33:11, "As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked (i.e. Sinner) but that the wicked turn from his way and live! Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways: for why will ye die?"
Jesus Christ is the ONLY Way to Heaven
