Body V • VENUS

 • • • • At some point, we felt that we wanted to see our outfits and images on the new body shapes, and we've been working on it for a couple of years. • • • •
• Body V • VENUS •
• • • • Like all our dolls, it is entirely hand sculpted. We kept our original proportions and the height of 40cm. • • • • •

• • • • This body combines the female beauty ideals from the different centuries with a modern image. • • • •

• • • • When the sculpture was finished, we realized that we don't want to cut it and make a joint in the torso, so we end up with two versions of the prototype - the solid torso and the one with a joint.

• • • • We were amazed to see how incredibly beautiful the solid body looks with different outfits, and now this is our favorite. • • • •

• • • • We're planning to create several Full Set sculptures with a solid body to unleash its full potential. • • • •

• • • • In the following posts, we'll talk more about the stunning features of VENUS • • • •

• •

Who is this toddler, who boogies to your favorite tunes wearing nothing but his diaper?
He is a figment of Michael Girard's imagination.

"The dancing baby," he said, "actually goes back to an initial cha-cha motion that I created as a demo file years ago."
The baby was one of several sample animation files he created to show off his animation software product, Kinetix Character Studio.
The foot-loose infant's star rose soon after. Copies of the diapered dancer now animate computer screens across the Internet.
CBS's "Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel" profiled the baby on its show last week.
And Hollywood recently seized on the baby as a plot device on "Ally McBeal."

"Ally McBeal's" co-executive producer, Jeffrey Kramer, said the show had been looking for ideas to explore Ally's biological clock.

"We use fantasy elements in the show, and what better biological clock than to see this little baby who comes in as an apparition and haunts her," he said.

Scene from "Ally McBeal" The Dancing Baby has appeared on the Fox program "Ally McBeal" Animation, of course, is not new.

The breakthrough in his product is that Character Studio builds animations on a standard home computer, making it possible for amateur animators to play with sophisticated motions.

Janelle Brown, culture writer for Wired News, calls the dancing baby a "meme," which Wired defines as "a contagious idea" -- like the kids of the "South Park" comedy series, and "Max Headroom" before them.

"These kinds of funny animations and jokes and little projects have always proliferated on the Web, and they've always been very much a 'Web thing,'" Brown said.

But the baby isn't just a Web thing anymore.
The child has been let out of cyberspace, and into the mainstream.

Senator Thom Tillis Pushed Awful Patent Reform Idea Last Year; Now Looks To Top It With Awful Copyright Reform This Year

Last year, Senator Thom Tillis was pushing a completely ridiculous patent reform bill that would have enabled massive patent trolling, by expanding what would count as patent-eligible subject matter.

  • After his bill was released -- and basically everyone who wasn't a patent troll explained what a disaster it would be for American innovation, Tillis quietly let the matter drop. Given that experience, you might think that Tillis would think twice before stepping into the even more fraught arena of copyright reform. And yet, Tillis has been champing at the bit to change the DMCA to make Hollywood happier with it. Now, there are lots of complaints to be made about the DMCA

Section 512 enables blatant censorship and puts tremendous pressure on platforms to take down non-infringing content.

It also favors larger platforms which can deal with a barrage of takedowns over smaller upstarts.

Section 1201 of the DMCA is utter garbage and makes it "infringing" to merely talk about ways to remove DRM -- even if the underlying reason for doing so is non-infringing.

There are obvious ways to fix both of those. But, instead, Tillis and his staff seem ultra focused on making Section 512 worse and importing awful ideas like the EU Copyright Directive, which forces platforms into being Hollywood's personal police, and bringing in dangerous, censorial ideas like "notice and staydown," which would require expensive and unreliable internet filters.

While he's made some nod towards perhaps making a few cosmetic changes to 1201 as a "trade" for making 512 that much worse, the overall impact of what's being discussed would be terrible.

1201 would remain in some form, and what few exceptions would be made would be minimal in impact. But bringing in things like "notice and staydown" for 512 would inevitably lead to much more censorship.
It's unclear why Tillis is rushing headlong into this debate, when it seems that neither he nor his staffers grasp the details of how copyright works. Given how silly and uninformed Tillis came out of last year's attempt to pass a patent bill, it's bizarre that his office hasn't bothered to be more careful on the copyright front before leaping into that arena.

Popovy Sisters To Die Antwoord For & Robert Christgau is “formally” asked: What do Van Halen and R.E.M. share? Xgau Sez "Van Halen and R.E.M. share 'Fables II'" Van R.E.M. [WarB.I.R.S., 2020]

Xgau Sez: September, 2020

Several 30 seconds of greatness, formalists formally considered, Ray Davies informally considered, list-making explained, hip-hop unexplained, and the "The Harry Smith B-Sides" expurgated

I’ve been beguiled by your use of the term “formalism” in reference to bands and artists. In a general sense I can grok what you are saying but am wondering does the use of the descriptor formalist connote a sense of stylistic predictability or derivativeness? [he even vocabularizes like Christgau ed.]

Is there an antonym in your critical arsenal for music that is the antithesis of formalistic? Below are a couple of abridged examples. It appears so often, and isn’t necessarily correlated with whether you find something pedestrian or worthwhile. —Martin Cassidy, Nashville

Van Halen: Van Halen II [Warner Bros, 1979] So how come formalists don’t love the shit out of these guys? Not because they’re into dominating women, I’m sure. C+

R.E.M.: Fables of the Reconstruction [I.R.S., 1985] But as formalists they valorize the past by definition, and if their latest title means anything it's that they're slipping inexorably into the vague comforts of regret, mythos, and nostalgia. B+

  • Let me note to begin that the “they” in the Van Halen needs a clearer referent, a fuckup on my part—no telling whether it indicates the band or the formalists.

I meant the band, thus suggesting that formalists may be clever, aesthetically sophisticated fellows, but they’re probably just as sexist as the metal clods they disdain.

And that’s a start: formalists are aesthetes who may well be jerks in other respects and often lack the idiosyncrasy that makes pop music feel special.

What do Van Halen and R.E.M. share?

Both are technically brilliant bands that delight in recapitulating the musical essentials of their chosen genres, metal and folk-rock/indie-rock. That much only a bigger clod would deny.

In Van Halen both Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth take their respective roles to new levels, just like R.E.M.’s guitar polymath Peter Buck and charismatically elusive Michael Stipe, whose early refusal to pronounce the band’s lyrics said so much it didn’t actually come out and say—that their collegiate following didn’t actually care what the songs were “about” because the songs’ sound was all that mattered to them.

Preferring R.E.M.’s materials to Van Halen’s and noting both that I warmed briefly to Van Halen when 1984 led with the great single “Jump” and that Stipe soon abandoned his mush-mouthed shtick, which in retrospect was what it was. But this isn’t to say formalists can’t be fun.

  •
  • My favorite example is Zion, Illinois’s Shoes, who I don’t recall even touring (though they did release a live EP). Basically, they just made records. And you could make a case that the Ramones were the greatest formalists in rock history. But after venturing that in relatively modern pop music it’s a special province of power pop I’ll say sayanora to a question best answered by a book no sufficiently smart person is likely to write.

  • Robert Christgau -
