(4 February 1912, France) I have a picture of someone who may be my relative, called Franz Reichelt. He is dressed in what looks like a huge black overcoat, and the caption reads, "Monsieur Franz Reichelt with his early parachute -- an outstanding example of the way in which early aviators were as spectacular in their failures as in their successes. "Reichelt was an Austrian tailor who sought to combine his interests by creating a garment to serve as both an overcoat and a parachute. In 1911, he decided to test his invention. Having told the authorities that he wanted to make a 'dummy' drop, at the last minute he strapped himself in, and with sublime confidence stepped from a platform off the Eiffel Tower, and fell to his death."

Here's the text that accompanied this footage:
Unused / unissued material - Paris, France. Franz Reichelt wearing the parachute that he designed and invented before ascending the Eiffel Tower. Reichelt standing on platform high up on the tower preparing to jump he hovers on the brink for some time and then eventually jumps falling straight down to his death. Police and small crowd around the body of Reichelt as it is carried away, they then measure the depth of the hole made by his fall. The film has French intertitles. Cataloguer's Note: Old record suggests this event happened 4th February 1912.

Objectum sexuality commonly referred to as OS, is a pronounced emotional desire towards particular inanimate objects. Those individuals with this expressed preference may feel strong feelings of arousal, attraction, love, and commitment to certain items or structures of their fixation. For some, sexual or even close emotional relationships with humans are incomprehensible. The term objectum-sexuality was coined in the 1970s by a woman named Eija-Riitta Eklöf Berliner-Mauer from Liden, Sweden, who was married to the Berlin Wall.[1] Objectum-sexual individuals also often believe in animism, or the belief that objects have souls, intelligence, feelings, and are able to communicate.[2]
In Feb 2008, Erika Eiffel, an objectum-sexual from San Francisco, California founded OS Internationale, an educational website and community for those identifying or studying the condition to love objects. The website generated a flood of international media interest. Eiffel, whose name derives from her marriage to the Eiffel Tower in 2007,[3] has been featured as a spokesperson in variety of international articles, radio talk shows, and television programs.[4]
Objectum sexuality first reached mainstream attention in English in an international article from Der Spiegel[5] about Eija-Riita Eklöf Berliner-Mauer's marriage to the Berlin Wall and accounts of several German objektsexualität individuals.
Objectum sexuality was featured in 2008 for the first time in UK media in Bizarre[6], and also two newspaper articles, one in The Daily Telegraph on Eija-Riitta Eklöf Berliner-Mauer [1] and another in The Independent on Erika Eiffel.[7]
In April 2009, on the second anniversary of her marriage to the Eiffel Tower, Erika Eiffel, two time world champion in archery, appeared on Good Morning America discussing how her object love empowered her.[8] ABC News raised the question about orientation verses paraphilia in an interview with Clinical Sexologist Dr. Amy Marsh.[9]
