IN BRIEF: JACKO'S UNDIES FOR SALE

September 9, 2008 --

MICHAEL Jackson's notorious tighty whities are up for grabs. A pair of size-28 Calvin Klein white briefs once belonging to Wacko Jacko will be auctioned on eBay tomorrow, with a reserve price of $1 million. The unwashed underpants have a sensational past. They were part of the evidence confiscated in 2003 by then-Santa Barbara DA Tom Sneddon, who wanted a DNA sample for his unsuccessful child-molestation case against the washed-up King of Pop. The briefs are part of a stash of Jacko artifacts offered by New Jersey businessman Henry Vacarro, who obtained them in a bankruptcy case. For extra authenticity, the briefs come sealed in an evidence bag and wrapped with police tape. Also being sold are the Gloved One's handwritten note explaining why he wants an annulment from Lisa Marie Presley and a used half-ounce tube of skin-bleaching cream.

Michael Jackson Quotes

Quotes both by Michael Jackson himself or by others about Michael Jackson.

This Christmas I came back from [touring in] Japan and Elizabeth had decorated the whole house. It was wonderful. I'd never celebrated birthdays or Christmases before. Not one. It was always, Work! That's why I believe in Neverland.
[Michael Jackson - Life Magazine, June '93]

You know that Michael Jackson video we did ["Whatzupwitu"]? I'm sitting there watching it with Bria [his daughter], and she goes "Fass fowad" [fast forward] to Michael! Fass fowad to Michael!"
[Eddie Murphy, 1993]

It's amazing to know that 5 years ago I was writing songs in a basement in the ghetto and now I'm writing for Michael Jackson. I'd be a fool not to say it's a dream come true.
[R. Kelly, 1995]

He cares about animals and nature, and he believes that with a positive attitude, we can have whatever we want. He would like to produce and direct, and I believe he will have those opportunities. Whatever else he does, I hope he never stops making his beautiful music.
[Diana Ross, 1993]

I wouldn't say I was sexy! But I guess that's fine if that's what they say. I like that in concert. That's neat.
[Michael Jackson, 1983]

Michael is a true artist in every facet of its nature - extremely aesthetic and very, very romantic. This is who he truly is despite degrading comments made in the past by certain larva. Michael, as well as myself, have been severely underestimated and misunderstood as human beings. I can't wait for the day when all the snakes who have tried to take him out get to eat their own lunch and crawl back in the holes from which they came. We know who they are and their bluff is about to be called.
[Lisa Marie Presley, 1995]

I am committed to my art. I believe that all art has as its ultimate goal the union between the material and the spiritual, the human and the divine. I believe that to be the reason for the very existence of art.
[Michael Jackson, 1993]

Yet, instead of loving our children more, we install metal detectors in our schools.
[Michael Jackson, 2001]

With two children of my own, I know what it means to balance the demands of family and career - and let's not even talk about finding a date for myself. Rabbi Shmuley keeps telling me he'll find me the perfect woman. My response is, 'As long as she's not a journalist'.
[Michael Jackson, 2001]

His intelligence is instinctual and emotional, like a child's. If any artist loses that childlike innocence, you lose a lot of creative juice. So Michael creates around himself a world that protects that creativity.
[Jane Fonda]

All over the walls of my room are pictures of Peter Pan. I've read everything that Barrie wrote. I totally identify with Peter Pan, the lost boy from Never Neverland.
[Michael Jackson]

But if you don't have that memory of being loved, you are condemned to search the world for something to fill you up. But no matter how much money you make or how famous you become, you will still feel empty. What you are really searching for is unconditional love, unqualified acceptance. And that was the one thing that was denied to you at birth.
[Michael Jackson, 2001]

I'm a collector of cartoons. All the Disney stuff, Bugs Bunny, the old MGM ones. It's real escapism, it's like everything's alright. It's like the world is happening now in a far away city. Everything's fine.
[Michael Jackson]

I'm not gonna marry somebody for any reason other than the fact that I've fallen in love with them. Period! Period! And they can eat it, if they wanna think any differently!!
[Lisa Marie Presley, 1995]

If I am guilty of anything it is of believing what God said about children: 'Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven.' In no way do I think that I am God, but I try to be God-like in my heart.
[Michael Jackson, 1993]

Michael is the single most awarded entertainer the world has ever known. As you listen to and enjoy his music, I'm sure you'll agree that we, his fans, are the ones who are the most rewarded.
[Steven Spielberg, 1995]

Before he won 12 Grammy awards, before he dazzled billions of fans around the world with his amazing talent as a performer, before he impacted on millions of lives with his ongoing humanitarian efforts, before all of that, he was one other thing, he was my brother.
[Janet Jackson, 1993]

I love Switzerland. It's so clean and cool. We don't get much snow where I live so I get real excited in Lausanne and Geneva. I'd like to buy a house there when I'm older and settle down. It's all so cute that it looks like a movie set.
[Michael Jackson]

He's the greatest artist that ever walked the face of the earth. You think so? [asked by 'The Face' magazine] Know So. Put it like this: no artist has had more men and women faint over them, ever. Am I right?
[Rodney Jerkins, 2000]

'Heal The World' and 'Stranger In Moscow' from the 'HIStory' record are, like, the makeup of Michael. I think he's taken on the responsibility to make changes in the world. He's the only real superhero. Think about it.
[Dallas Austin, 1995]

Lisa's sweet. I like her very much, and we are friends. And who knows what tomorrow brings? I have no idea how she feels today. I'll just say that. She comes to my house and sees the children, and we talk on the phone, that sort of thing.
[Michael Jackson, 1999]

He's a fucking brilliant entertainer, a complete natural. He's the only guy I've ever met that's real - for that kind of music. I grew up listening to the Jackson 5. I used to love 'Dancing Machine'.
[Slash]

I do disguises for different reasons. I like to study people - be like the fly on the wall. Even if it's two old ladies sitting on a bench or some kids on a swing. Because I don't know what it's like to fit in an everyday life situation.
[Michael Jackson, 1999]

The magic, the wonder, the mystery, and the innocence of a child's heart, are the seeds of creativity that will heal the world. I really believe that!
[Michael Jackson, 1993]

I happen to be colorblind. I don't hire color, I hire competence! ... Racism is not my motto. One day, I strongly expect every color to love as one family.
[Michael Jackson, 1984]

He knows what the people are saying. That will make all this greater. He wants to shock people. When his music comes out, it will shut everyone down. You think Michael has forgotten how to sing? How to dance? It hasn't been THAT long!
[Rodney Jerkins, 2001]

If Michael comes back with the right record it will blaze the universe.
[Wyclef Jean, 2001]

I am sorry cannot be here in person, as I am currently in Japan for my HIStory World Tour and am hosting a holiday party for the employees of STAR magazine tonight. Thank you very much for this award, and I wish all of you a very happy holiday season. I love you.
[Michael Jackson's humorous response to a 'Sour Apple' award nomination, 1996]

I love the fans and they are the reason for my professional existence. When I'm out there doing a show and I see the fans dancing and singing, that's what I love the most. It's just the greatest feeling in the world.
[Michael Jackson, 1988]

I want to do something to help those who lost their parents, who lost their mothers and their fathers. Those are our people. Those are our children. Those are our parents.

[Epic Records congratulating Michael, 30th Anniversary, 2001]

Fred Astaire told me things I will never forget. Gene Kelly also said he liked my dancing. It was a fantastic experience because I felt I had been inducted into an informal fraternity of dancers, and I felt so honored because these were the people I most admired in the world.

He wasn't at all sure that he could make it on his own. And me too. I had my doubts.
[Quincy Jones before Off The Wall]

Sure he's a little afraid of people. When you have people that from the time you're a little kid, want a part of you, they want your clothes, they want your hair - you're going to get a little nervous around people.
[Vincent Paterson, choreographer]

He wasn't ever really interested in money. I'd give him his share of the night's earnings and the next day he'd buy ice cream or candy for all the kids in the neighbourhood.
[Father, Joe Jackson]

I know how he feels right now. I had the same experience with Sony Music in the past. Shakira's, Britney's are now top priority for labels. That's not good, but what can you do about it?
[George Michael, 2002]

I don't know what I could do besides sing but I'm not worried because I figure I've got the rest of my life to find out!
[Michael Jackson, 1971]

To many people Michael Jackson seems an elusive personality, but to those who work with him, he is not. This talented artist is a sensitive man, warm, funny and full of insight.
[Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis]

They are the two most powerful men in music going head to head in an all out war.
[The Mirror on MJ vs Mottola]

Once I started breaking sales records, I broke Elvis Presley's record, I broke the Beatles' record - once I started doing that, overnight they called me a freak, a homosexual, a child molester... They said I bleached my skin. They did everything they could to turn the public against me. It's a conspiracy.
[Michael Jackson, 2002]

So I'm leaving Sony, a free agent, owning half of Sony. I own half of Sony's Publishing. I'm leaving them, and they're very angry at me, because I just did good business, you know.

We are Germans. We are Armenians. French, Italian, Russian, American, Asian, African... many other nationalities. We are Christians, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu. We are black, we are white. We are a community of some many differences, so complex and yet so simple. We do not need to have war!
[Michael Jackson, Nov. 21, 2002]

Always appreciate the gift of life! Be happy and have fun!
[Michael Jackson, Nov. 21, 2002]

I stand here and say he's a really nice guy!!!
[Stan Winston, 1997]

Today I feel more betrayed than perhaps ever before, that someone who had got to know my children, my staff and me, whom I let into my heart and told the truth, could then sacrifice the trust I placed in him and produce this terrible and unfair program.
[Michael Jackson's comment on the Martin Bashir documentation, Feb 06, 2003]

But, to be clear, is it fair to say that in private you were doing all the things that married people do: kissing, going to bed together, having sex? "Yeah. That was part of it, for a while. And then it became the Def Con 2. It just got really ugly at the end."
[Lisa Marie Presley to RS Magazine]

Did you and Michael discuss having kids? Yes. I got out of that one. 'I just don't think if is a good idea right now'. But I knew that's what he wanted. And I knew Debbie Rowe was offering to do it for him while we were married, according to him. She was a nurse who had a crush on him and offered to have his babies.
[Lisa Marie Presley to Playboy Magazine]

I believe in doing better work. Just like the old saying, 'You don't get older, you get better.'
[Michael Jackson

Why Is The DA smiling? It's not funny. This is someone's life, and I don't think he should be reduced to a joke. He's far more than that.
[Alicia Keys, Vibe Awards

Where's the evidence? Really all they have that they can hold against Michael is G....'s testimony and that's just G's word against Michael's. Even if they have other evidence what or who isn't to say they didn't plant it when they raided Neverland?
[LL Cool J, 2003]

I grew up with him and I've spent a lot of time at Neverland and nothing has ever happened with me in any way. You have to look at both sides. I do think it is very convenient that his album came out and all this stuff is happening. I definitely do think that's very convenient. It really hurts me to see that his whole life is ruined.
[Nicole Richie]

When we first went to Switzerland, I almost started crying. I really did. What touched you about that trip to bring about that emotional response? The beauty. It's like, oh, God, it's crying out in the sky. It's an incredible country and it inspires me to see these things - the mountains. The pictures don't do justice to Switzerland.
[Ebony Magazine 1984]

I hope this puts to rest, I hope this finally puts to rest another rumor that has been in the press for too many years: Me and Janet really are two different people!
[Michael Jackson at Grammy's 1993]

He doesn't trust anyone in this world. Not a single soul. I keep telling him, 'Michael, one day you're gonna have to trust someone'. But maybe he has good reason not to trust. A lot of people have done him wrong.

Michael Jackson's Ghosts Movie Information

Ghosts

Ghosts is a musical movie, 38 mins long, with Michael Jackson playing both the main characters. The first of those characters is a Maestro who lives alone in a haunted looking castle on a hill. Its known he has been entertaining the local town children with scary magic tricks which they have found to be pure fun.

Michael Jackson also plays the role of the second main character, the Town Mayor, a white ageing, overweight man. The make up effects are amazing its not easy to tell this isn't a real human actor let alone guess this role is being played by Michael Jackson. The Mayor leads some of the towns folk up to the castle along with some of the kids on a mission to run the Maestro out of town. They believe he is not just entertaining the children but scaring them. They, or at least the Town Mayor perceive the Maestro as a "Freak" and "Weirdo". The children say the Maestro is harmless and want him to be left alone.

When the Mayor backed up by the towns people finds the Maestro and tells him "Are you going to leave, or am I going to have to make you?" The Maestro is unfazed by this and questions "You're trying to scare me, aren't you?...I guess I have no choice, I have to try and scare you." This is when the movies special effects really begin. As you can see from the movie screenshots Michael totally distorts his face and eventually pulls his whole face off just leaving his skull.

The Maestro then reveals he is not alone in the castle and many of his ghostly friends start appearing from balls of light thrown by the Maestro. Michael performs a dance to the song "2 Bad". This is also followed by some more routines, one with Michael's skeleton dancing and even moonwalking. The Maestro also enters into the body of the Mayor and makes the Mayor dance to the music. The Mayor ends up disappearing through a window and the towns people appear to accept the Maestro.

Overal the movie really does make the most of some of the latest special effects of the time. The dance routines, although somewhat reminnicent of Thriller, with Michael leading ghosts from past era instead of zombies are amazing and the music is Michael Jackson at his best, maybe not as regards hit records, but ideal for the movie. This ia must see movie for any fan of Michael Jackson.

The movie was released at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996 and released on VHS video in 1997. Songs featured in the film were "2 Bad" which was from Michael Jackson's HIStory album and Ghosts and Is It Scary which were both taken from Blood On The Dance Floor, which was a History in the Mix album with some new tacks.

Plot summary

The Maestro (Jackson) lives alone in a creepy-looking mansion on top of a hill, overlooking the town of "Normal Valley". Occasionally, he entertains the local children with scary magic tricks. One of the children tells his mother, who alerts the town Mayor (also played by Jackson); he in turn organizes the townspeople to go to the Maestro's mansion and force him out of town. Some of them show reluctance to do so, but are pressured into joining the Mayor on his crusade.

On a stormy night they go to the Maestro's mansion (which instead of a numbered address, is addressed "Someplace Else") holding flaming torches. When they arrive at the mansion, it is guarded by a large gate. They peer in through the gate, and by the haunting look of the mansion, have second thoughts about entering. The children assure the parents that the Maestro has done nothing wrong, and ask that they leave him alone. But the Mayor remarks, "He's a weirdo, and there's no place in this town for weirdos".

The front gate opens, frightening the townspeople, who make their way to the front door, which also opens by itself. The inside of the mansion appears to them even creepier than the outside, and the parents re-assure their children (and themselves) "there's no such thing as ghosts". They make their way into the house, and once they are all inside, the front door slams shut and locks itself.

Two more large doors swing open revealing a large, darkened dance hall. Hesitantly, the townspeople make their way to the dance hall, where they are greeted by The Maestro who makes a scary yet comical entrance. The Mayor angrily confronts him, calling the Maestro "strange", "weird", and a "freak

To this the Maestro replies, "You're trying to scare me, aren't you?...I guess I have no choice; I have to try and scare you." He then makes a series of funny faces, which the Mayor calls "ridiculous" and "not funny". In a change of tone, the Maestro asks, "Is this scary?" and pulls his face sideways before pulling his face down and stretches his mouth. Then he continues to stretch his face more, ultimately pulls off his face to reveal his skull

and laughing maniacally. The frightened townspeople run for the doors, which the Maestro shuts with his magical powers, then smashes his skull with his fists, revealing his normal head.

The Maestro then introduces his "family" of ghouls who, along with the Maestro, perform an extended dance routine (to original music composed by Jackson) which alternately impresses and scares the townspeople. During this sequence, the Maestro's acts include ripping his skin off to reveal a skeletal body; possessing

After his performance ends, the Maestro asks, "Do you still want me to go?". While the townspeople respond "no", the mayor vehemently says "Yes!". The Maestro quietly agrees by saying, "Fine...I'll go." He falls, and after smashing his hands and face into the floor his face and body violently start to crumble into dust on the floor, which is then blown away by the wind. The townspeople are saddened by this, and somewhat sorry to see him go. The Mayor however thinks he has come out victorious and heads for the doors saying "I Showed him". When he opens them he finds a monstrous-looking Maestro-demon head which says "HELLO" and terrifies him, and he runs away scared (leaving a comically Mayor-shaped hole in the glass door).

The townspeople then turn back to the now open front doors to see the Maestro standing there, laughing. They realize he isn't so bad after all and make peace with him. The story ends with one of the children asking, "Is this scary?", and the camera moves to a long shot of the mansion while terrified screams are heard.

Ghosts also can be viewed as a not-so-thinly veiled self-commentary by Jackson on his personal circumstances in the years preceding its production. Direct parallels can be drawn between various elements in the film and Jackson's own life: The Maestro - a reclusive, solitary figure, living removed from the townspeople, and interacting primarily with their children - is attacked by evil-seeming white and black figures with power in a manner similar to how Jackson perceived his own situation.

Was Jesus Buried? - Beliefnet.com

The hierarchy of horror was loss of life, loss of possessions, loss of burial, that is, destruction of body, destruction of family, destruction of identity. For the ancient world, the final penalty was to lie unburied as food for carrion birds and beasts. After Octavius, later emperor Augustus, had defeated Julius Caesar's murderers at Philippi in October of 42 B.C.E.,

He did not use his victory with moderation, but after sending Brutus' head to Rome, to be cast at the feet of Caesar's statute, he vented his spleen upon the most distinguished of his captives, not even sparing them insulting language. For instance, to one man who begged humbly for burial, he is said to have replied: "The [carrion] birds will soon settle that question." (Suetonius, The Deified Augustus 13.1-2)

As with Brutus' companions for Augustus, so with Sejanus's companions for Tiberius. Between 26 and 31 the emperor Tiberius ruled Rome from the island of Capri off Naples, and Sejanus, prefect of the praetorian or imperial bodyguard, plotted against him in Rome itself. But in October of 31 C.E. Tiberius moved swiftly against him, and many of his fellow plotters chose immediate suicide:

For these modes of dying were rendered popular by fear of the executioner and by the fact that a man legally condemned forfeited his estate and was debarred from burial; while he who passed sentence upon himself had his celerity so far rewarded that his body was interred and his will respected. (Tacitus, Annals 6.29)

Lack of proper burial was not just ultimate insult, it was ultimate annihilation in the ancient Roman world. There would be no place where the dead one could be mourned, visited, or remembered. Think of all those Roman graves whose epitaphs address the passerby in direct discourse: the

I

can still speak to

you

.

It was precisely that lack of burial that consummated the three supreme penalties of being burned alive, cast to the beasts in the amphitheater, or crucified. They all involved inhuman cruelty, public dishonor, and impossible burial. In the first two cases, that's obvious: there would be hardly anything left for burial. In the case of crucifixion, it presumes that the body was left on the cross until birds and beasts of prey had destroyed it. Indeed, in Roman texts two items occur again and again in connection with crucifixion. First, the crucified one is especially a disobedient slave or anyone considered an equivalent nobody, hence its designation as the slave penalty. Second, the crucified one is left unburied on the cross as carrion. Those twin concepts come together in an imagined interchange between Horace and one of his slaves published in 20 B.C.E.

If a slave were to say to me, "I never stole nor ran away": my reply would be, "you have your reward; you are not flogged." [If a slave were to say to me,] "I never killed anyone":[my reply would be,] "You'll hang on no cross to feed crows." (Epistles I.16:46-48)

Crucifieds were left, kept, or guarded on the cross even after death if there was any chance that relatives or friends might take them down for proper burial before it was absolutely too late. Such an act would be, of course, extremely dangerous unless done with bribes or permissions.

Top 10 Reasons Why Michael Jackson Has Not Been Buried Yet funny spoof magazine story

image for Top 10 Reasons Why Michael Jackson Has Not Been Buried Yet Michael Jackson, STILL lying in state in the Jackson family living room.

The top 10 reasons why Michael Jackson has not been buried yet are:

10. The family figures it can milk far more sympathy c.d. and memorabilia sales this way. In life, Michael Jackson struggled for decades to reach the record-smashing sales he achieved with 1983's landmark "Thriller" album. But since his unexpected passing on June 25 at the age of 50, the self-proclaimed King of Pop has once again become the most dominant musical figure on the planet. The Jacksons feel such revenue is much better than any plain old sympathy card!

9. The funeral home refuses to release the solid gold casket for burial until it is completely paid for, citing the Jacksons record of being deadbeats. The problem was that Michael Jackson's appetite for spending exceeded his cash inflows -- to the tune of $20 million to $30 million each year. Jackson died with as much as $500 million in unpaid debts.

8. He has been, but the ground keeps vomiting him back up. For example, on July 15, a magnitude 7.8 quake, the strongest in the world this year, struck off New Zealand's South Island during an attempted burial of Jackson there. Rob Valentine, the mayor of Hobart in Australia's island state of Tasmania, says New Zealand's biggest earthquake in 78 years pushed the neighbors 30 centimeters (12 inches) closer. Hobart is the Australian city nearest to New Zealand, separated by 1,530 kilometers (951 miles) of water across the Tasman Sea. Alarmed Australian officials demanded the immediate removal of Jackson's remains.

7. Katherine Jackson is broke, and the funeral home wants much more than the $255 Social Security Death Benefit to pay for its services, including flowers. Attorneys for Jackson's estate say: "We are informed that Mrs. Jackson was also financially dependent upon Michael Jackson and that other than extremely modest social security benefits, Mrs. Jackson has no independent means of support."

6. The family is waiting for all of the "RSVP"s to pour in for the burial itself. While the 17,500 tickets given away for the July 7, 2009 memorial service were free, the Jackson's have decided to charge $299 plus convenience and handling fees per ticket for the burial, citing Jackson's enormous debt at the time of his death and the huge public interest in his burial.

5. The Jacksons want to be sure they have located all of Michael's alleged children to invite to the burial to elicit as many heart-tugging moments possible. At the memorial on July 7, little Paris Jackson gave an impromptu speech from the stage surrounded by the Jackson family.
"I just want to say ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine," she said through tears. "And I just want to say I love him so much." The family is hoping for more such press-worthy moments and figures the more kids, the greater the chance of that happening.

4. The family is waiting to not only recover the portion of Jackson's brain removed by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner for study during autopsy but all of his other o.b.p. (original body parts) removed during his numerous plastic surgeries through the years, because they want to be sure to bury all of him at one time. Michael Jackson underwent numerous skin whitenings, several nose surgeries, and other procedures to slim down his face and alter its shape. Cosmetic surgery specialists also have speculated that Jackson probably had many more cosmetic surgery procedures, not too difficult to miss if you know what you're looking for. As Jackson got thinner, whiter and more Caucasian appearing, he looked less like himself and more like a caricature of what he thought a white person should look like.

3. The Jacksons are hoping to hold out until after the child custody hearing on August 3, 2009 to have him buried to make sure whoever gets custody of the children also inherits the burial bills, kind of a get three (or maybe only two), take one corpse free arrangement. Legal experts have said that Debbie Rowe has a strong claim to the older children as their biological mother, and if she attempted to win custody now, Jackson's family would have to convince a judge that it would not be in the children's best interest to live with her.

2. They are waiting for all the postmortem drug induced activity amongst Jackson's various organs to die down before commending him to the grave. "It is quite disconcerting to still see his organs doing the moon walk by themselves over a month after he was declared legally dead and we can't bear to part with them until all activity ceases" said an unknown family member.

1. Michael Jackson is not really dead. It has all been a huge publicity stunt to get out of debt. It worked.

Dr Murray is the subject of a manslaughter investigation.

The death certificate was changed to reflect the LA coroner’s report that Jackson was a homicide victim.

The report says Jacko was killed by “acute propofol intoxication” and a contributing factor was the presence of anxiety and insomnia medications in his system, listed as “benzodiazepine effect”.

The first version of the certificate said recording the cause of death was deferred pending the coroner’s investigation and toxicology reports.

Jackson’s private funeral ceremony is expected to start at 7pm today.

He will be buried in Holly Terrace Grand Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park, five miles from Hollywood.

Jacko’s pal Diana Ross will be there, as will Motown label founder Berry Gordy. Aretha Franklin will sing at the graveside.

LAST: WHEN A BROADWAY PLAY ISSUES 'EXAMINER' (FAKE NEWS) BLOG ARTICLES, YOU KNOW IT'S CLOSE TO 'DARK' - National tour of 9 to 5: The Musical to launch at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center

The national tour of the Broadway production 9 to 5: The Musical will open at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center next year.

The first launch of its kind at TPAC, the musical comedy, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, will be rehearsed in Andrew Jackson Hall for several weeks, prior to opening the 2010-2011 season of HCA/TriStar Broadway at TPAC, September 21-26, 2010, and moving on to major cities nationwide.

“We’re thrilled.  We loved the show in New York and Nashville is the perfect place to rehearse and open 9 to 5 before it tours to major cities nationwide,” said Kathleen O’Brien, TPAC’s president and chief executive officer.  “We’re especially proud to be selected for this honor because Tennessee’s own Dolly Parton wrote the score for the musical comedy and TPAC invested in the Broadway production through our membership in the Independent Presenters Network.

So, for numerous reasons, we are highly invested in the success of this show. The launch of the tour will be a fun and historic event for Nashville, Tennessee and TPAC audiences as we celebrate our 30th anniversary in September 2010,” said O’Brien, noting that TPAC opened its doors in 1980, the same year that the film version of 9 to 5 was released.

Winner of seven Grammy Awards and named “Entertainer of the Year” by the Country Music Association in 1977, among hosts of honors, Dolly Parton won widespread acclaim for her first screen role in 9 to 5, co-starring with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as spirited office workers who considered themselves “just a step on the boss-man’s ladder.” In addition to the success of the film, her Grammy-winning title song struck a chord with millions of Americans. The catchy tune reached #1 on the country, pop and adult charts. The multi-talented Parton wrote 16 new songs for the stage musical and was actively involved in its development, marking her debut as a Broadway composer and lyricist.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better experience on my first Broadway show,” said Parton.  “I’ve had the privilege of working with an amazing group of people who have become like family to me. I can’t wait for this show to hit the road so people across the country can see why I’m so proud of everyone involved. And I'm so pleased that we'll be opening the tour in Nashville. Great things happen in Nashville.”

Just about one year from now, O’Brien said, the creative team, cast and crew from the first national tour of 9 to 5: The Musical will come to Nashville for several weeks of rehearsal and “tech” in Andrew Jackson Hall.  The 2010-2011 season of “HCA/TriStar Broadway at TPAC” will open on September 21, 2010 with 8 performances here before the show moves on to cities across the nation.

The Broadway production features scenic design by two-time Tony Award winner Scott Pask, costume design by five-time Tony Award winner William Ivey Long, lighting design by Tony Award winners Jules Fisher and  Kenneth Posner, sound design by John Shivers, imaging by Peter Nigrini and Peggy Eisenhauer, with music direction by Stephen Oremus, who served as the musical director for “Broadway Meets Country,” a concert presented by TPAC and the Country Music Association in 2006.

Closely following the plot of the film, the musical comedy features three co-workers pushed to their boiling point by their boss. The trio hatches a plan to get even with their sexist, egotistical supervisor that quickly spins wildly and hilariously out of control.  On Broadway, Violet Newstead the efficient office manager is played by Allison Janney, with Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty, respectively, as the frazzled divorcee Judy Bernly and the sexy executive secretary Doralee Rhodes (played by Parton in the film).

See the web site www.9to5themusical.com for more information on the production, which is closing on Broadway in September.

“What a way to observe our 30th anniversary in 2010,” said O’Brien. “We’re excited to be ‘coming full circle’ with so many connections to 9 to 5.  We look forward to sharing this special, historic milestone with our audiences as we celebrate 30 years of art, entertainment, and education together at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.”
