Soviet Collapse - naaah. Nobody with the western set of mind can even come close to understanding the real reasons. To begin with, the real question is not why Soviet Union collapsed. The real question is how the hell it survived for 70+ years.

Perhaps. But the author of the paper certainly has some insight:
"Yegor Gaidar is director of the Institute for Economies in Transition in Moscow. Between 1991 and 1994, he was acting prime minister of Russia, minister of economy, and first deputy prime minister.
