Elvis's grandson signs recording deal.....and it's not with Sony!

Saturday 3 October 2009

Elvis's grandson signs recording deal.....and it's not with Sony!: Two months after the death of Michael Jackson, his former wife Lisa Marie Presley has reason to cheer. Mandrake can disclose that her 17-year-old son, Benjamin Presley, has been offered a $5 million [£3.3 million] deal by Universal, the world's biggest record company, to make up to five albums.

Ben tells me that his first album, which he is recording at the moment, will be very different in style from those of his grandfather Elvis, who died 15 years before Ben was born.

"The music will be nothing like Elvis, nothing like him at all," he said at the Inzpiration Awards for Women, at Cadogan Hall, in Belgravia.

The teenager, who bears a startling resemblance to his grandfather, is currently taking a break from making the album, which he hopes to release next year. "He's a typical 17 year-old," says his spokesman. "He doesn't get up before midday and then grunts at you." (News, Source: Brian Quinn/Tim Walker and Richard Eden, telegraph.co.uk)

Jacko was hot in bed: Lisa Marie

  • Jacko was hot in bed: Lisa Marie
(Times of India, July 1 2009)

While the case against him for the alleged sexual abuse of 12-year-old Jordie Chandler brought out his bizarre lifestyle and love for proximity to children out into the open, no one really believed him when he insisted he had romanced girls like Tatum O'Neal or Brooke Shields.

In fact, according to extracts from a book published in a UK tabloid, Tatum told a friend: 'How can any girl have a relationship with him? When we're together, he's so shy he hardly says two words. 'I know he's a virgin. I wonder if he's afraid to have sex. He doesn't seem very interested.'

And when Michael Jackson was growing up, his mother too worried that he rarely went out with girls. As people settled into seeing the star as an eccentric, but essentially asexual, came his marriage to Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1994.

Writes Randy Taraborrelli in Michael Jackson: The Magic And The Madness, Jackson's friend and confidant of 40 years, "From my conversations with both Michael and Lisa, I am convinced this marriage was not a sham. And, according to Lisa herself, Jackson was a wonderful lover. He was, she said, 'very hot' in bed."

Michael and Lisa hit it off on their very first date, at a dinner party of a mutual friend. They believed they were soulmates. Michael flirted openly, and as they talked, Lisa felt she was seeing the real Michael, the man behind the mask.

Throughout the time of his obsession with Jordie Chandler, Jackson dated Lisa intermittently and after the case began, he took her support in "long, anguished phone calls", writes Taraborrelli.

Lisa is quoted as saying, "Yes, I started falling for him. I wanted to help him, and I felt that I could." She stood by him as he spiralled into drug addiction. During one phone call, he asked how she would respond if he proposed marriage. Her reply was instant: "I would do it." ...

  • Lisa Marie Presley Says Michael Jackson Thought He Would Die Like Elvis
    Written by: Kelcey Bridges
    (thecelebritycafe.com, June 29 2009)

The pop star's ex-wife says he always knew how his life would end.
Lisa Marie Presley, Michael Jackson's first wife, took to her MySpace blog to release a public statement regarding her feelings about Jackson's tragic death. "As I sithereoverwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watchingon the news almost play by play Theexact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (a sight I never wanted to see again)just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted," Presley said in her MySpace blog.

During a conversation she had with Jackson, the subject shifted to the tragic death of Presley's father, Elvis Presley. Presley claims Jackson told her, "I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did." "I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that. 14 years later I amsitting here watching on the newsan ambulance leaves the driveway of his home, the big gates, the crowds outside the gates, the coverage, the crowds outside the hospital, the cause of death and what may have led up to it and the memory of this conversation hit me, as did the unstoppable tears," Presley said in her blog.

Presley and Jackson wed in May 1994 and divorced in 1996.

  • Meet my gorgeous twins!
    (Woman's Day, February 2 2009, cover page, pp. 4-7)

The proud mum shows off her daughters Finley and Harper for the first time.
Lisa Marie Presley beans as she nurses her double bundle of joy. With a baby in each arm and husband Michael Lockwood by her side, Lisa Marie, 31 next week, is a picture of bliss. The twins - who have unusual names for girls - will share their L home with big sister Riley, 19, brother Benjamin, 16, three dogs and three cats in one big, happy "chaotic" family. And it's fair to say Lisa Marie is gushing as she introduces Evis's granddaughters to the world. ...

  • Lisa Marie Presley's 'freaky' twins
(NZCity, Bang Showbiz, January 23 2009)

Lisa Marie Presley says having twins is "freaky". The singer - who gave birth to daughters Finley and Harper three months ago - says she and husband Michael Lockwood have struggled to adjust to the new additions to their family. She revealed: "When we brought the babies home it was a complete and utter shock. "Everything is so freaky. Are they breathing? Are they OK? They're so fragile. That freaks me out. Michael was freaked out about dropping them."

Lisa Marie - who also has two teenage children, Riley, 19, and Ben, 16, from a previous marriage to Danny Keough - says the twins are already displaying different personalities, labelling Finley "full of p**s and vinegar". She added to Hello! magazine: "Finley is a little clone of me and Harper is a little clone of Michael, looks and personality wise. Little Harper, for 'harp' is this little sweet, calm, dainty baby. And Finley, which is Scottish for 'fair warrior', is also an angel but a bit more rugged. She is ferocious, funny and full of p**s and vinegar, as they say."

  • PRESLEY FEARED POST-PARTUM DEPRESSION
    (Contact Music, January 20 2009)

LISA MARIE PRESLEY expected to experience post-partum depression following the birth of her new baby twins - and was delighted when the condition never materialised.

The 40-year-old star and her husband Michael Lockwood welcomed daughters Harper and Finley in October (08). The girls are Presley's third and fourth children, and her first two with Lockwood. Presley is also mother to Danielle Riley, 19, and Benjamin Storm, 15, from her first marriage to Danny Keough.

And Presley admits that prior to the birth, she was convinced she would suffer from some form of depression when the girls arrived - because looking after twins is such hard work.

She tells Hello magazine, "I was expecting to go into some severe post-partum land. I was waiting for it to hit me. I had a couple of episodes of crying but they weren't unfounded. I'm glad it didn't actually get me. Everything is so freaky. 'Are they breathing? Are they OK?' They're so fragile. That freaks me out."

    (people.com, January 14 2009)

Presley reveals the moment she realized she was following a family tradition, "I knew my family history - my father had a twin who died at birth and my other grandmother also had twins. "But at the ultrasound, the doctor goes, 'There's the heartbeat.' Then she says, 'There's another one.' I started crying, Michael started crying." And she insists three-month-olds Harper and Finley will get to learn about their very famous ancestor, adding: "There will definitely be a music lesson on Grandpa."

WHO owns the black bag that Dr Nick used to treat Elvis? Or the bottles of prescription pills dated the day before Presley died? Elvis memorabilia battle

March 26, 2007 02:30pm

WHO owns the black bag that Dr Nick used to treat Elvis? Or the bottles of prescription pills dated the day before Presley died?

Or the glass nasal douche used to irrigate the King's nostrils before he took the stage?

This week a Delaware judge begins hearing a dispute over a multimillion-dollar collection of Elvis memorabilia once owned by one of rock-and-roll's most infamous physicians, George C Nichopoulos.

"It's a big, damned mess, man, just the craziest thing you've ever seen," says Bobby Freeman, a lounge-singer/music-historian and defendant in the case.

"What's going on in that court in Delaware is absolutely disgusting."

The "Dr Nick" collection – temporarily padlocked inside a Nevada airport hangar – includes a stuffed dog, a desk carved by Elvis' Uncle Vester, a .38 Smith & Wesson, the laryngeal scope used to examine the King's throat, and the official red strobe light issued to Dr Nick in case he needed to race to Graceland for an emergency.

"It's amazing," Freeman says. "It's about the roots of rock and roll. It's about America, man."

A lawyer for the millionaire Californian suing Freeman does not disagree.

"There are items of genuine interest to Elvis fans, such as a copy of the book The Prophet with Elvis' hand-written annotations," says lawyer David L Finger of Wilmington.

He represents Richard Long, a California, executive who last year joined Freeman to buy Dr Nick's collection.

Freeman and Long are not talking anymore.

Long alleges in his lawsuit that he put up $US1.2 million ($A1.49 million) to make the deal happen but that Freeman will not give him access to the collection for management and insurance purposes.

Freeman says Long failed to put up $US3 million ($A3.73 million) more he had pledged to the project, fumbled a big chance to do a show at the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas, and secretly intends to sell the collection overseas.

The issue for the Delaware Chancery Court, among the nation's most respected business courts, is whether the rift between Freeman and Long is now so severe that their Delaware limited liability company should be dissolved.

If that happens, the next step would be to determine who gets to keep the collection.

The stakes are high, Freeman insists.

"It's about you, your children and America," the entertainer says.

The best man suited to protect these treasures, Freeman says, is Freeman.

"See, I built this collection," he says from Las Vegas, explaining that he entered a 50-50 partnership with Nichopoulos to show it to casinos in 2000.

"We opened it at the Hollywood Casino in Tunica, 15 miles (24km) from Graceland, and it was held over three times, and I did entertainment shows opposite of it in the ballroom.

"I have a big production. I'm a writer, a producer, and I play 30 instruments.

" PBS did a special on my life. I've been awarded by 31 U.S. governors."

The four-casino tour was so successful that Freeman came with the idea up putting the collection inside tractor-trailers and touring it nationwide.

Dr Nick said OK.

It took three years to build a show, but by 2005, Freeman had installed it inside two custom-made 18-wheelers.

"It tells the story of an intimate relationship between Dr Nick and his patient," Freeman says, describing the truck interiors. "Everything is beautiful: There's carpeting everywhere - burgundy, two inches (5cm) high, the best you can buy - and every frame is carved gold.

"There's the nasal douche, the laryngeal scope, and drug bottles with the name `Elvis Presley'," he says.

"You might think that's tacky. Man, even I think it's morbid. But what right do I have to pull it out of there?"

Freeman plans to charge $US20 ($A25) a ticket. As a bonus, he says he'll put on a concert at the end.

"I rock the piano with my feet. I play that thing any way I can, man."

But for now, the show is dark. Until the legal dispute is resolved, the trucks are parked in a secure, undisclosed location – the hangar in Nevada.

"It's a shame," Freeman says.

Dr. George Nichopoulos

 Dr. George Nichopoulos

He may not have been the best doctor for a drug addict, but in prescribing more than 19,000 doses of narcotics, sedatives and stimulants for Elvis Presley over 32 months, Dr. George Nichopoulos was a ''good samaritan,'' his lawyer argued in Memphis last week. Standing trial on charges of overprescribing addictive drugs for Mr. Presley and 10 other patients, Dr. Nichopoulos was acquitted, largely because the defense was able to establish that there is no universally accepted treatment for prescription drug addicts. Dr. Nichopoulos said he prescribed the drugs in hope of becoming his patients' only source and then weaning them from their dependency. Drug experts said they wished the case would focus attention on the plight of physicians who feel duty bound to treat the growing number of such cases, but lack the necessary training.
