Follow along as we head south to the Third Coast to groove on one of the most original rap scenes ever realized. Houston is a city defined by its geography--low and slow, hot and hard, bayous and parking lots spreading for endless flat suburban miles. But a lack of citywide zoning creates pockets of distinct communities within Houston's sprawl, and in these unofficially cordoned-off neighborhoods, Dirty Southern rap was born. Initially characterized by the hard-charging Veto Boys, Houston's style was based on life in the 3rd and 5th Wards as well as South Park. When DJ Screw emerged from the shadows, his Screwed and Chopped sound created a sub-genre of rap music that would soon take the music world by storm. Bundled with DJ Screw's sound was the controversial romanticizing of syrup, a drug almost solely associated with Houston rap. The Bayou City has since blown up as a Mecca of the new southern style, and the slow sticky sound of Screwed and Chopped has come to dominate the public's perception of the Houston scene. VB gambled that the story of Houston Rap was more fascinating than mainstream media's simplistic version, so I dusted off my fanciest duds and moseyed my way down to find out what the hell had happened in this place written off by the East and West coasts as mere fly-over territory. As you'll see, layered between hard-working dedication and street-smart hustle, Houston is its own distinct world. A music scene accented with the homegrown trappings of Slabs, Grills, cumulus-sized clouds of marijuana smoke, and the ever present aura of syrup yields a swansong' vibe that could have only been Third Coast Born. Watch as a host of Houston MC, led by the Screwed Up Click, Devin the Dude, the South Park Coalition and Bun B, lay this rags-to-riches story out for the whole world to see in simple black and white.

"Renaldo and Clara", written and directed by Bob Dylan is known to be obscure (devastating bald reviews).

Bob Dylan's troubled relationship with women: wife, Sara, and ex-lover, Joan Baez is the film's loveless triangle, its mirror life. Blatantly deceptive [jokerman] and obfuscating; layering meaninglessness into unified, connected, whole, multiple sub-themes, derelictions and Dylan's sideline headiness.

Dylan's experiment's first-half, 1975 tour, Rolling Thunder Revue's live concert footage, between "Desire" and "Street-Legal," had never been seen before Renaldo and Clara's release [much of its still not been seen simply because no one's seen the film]. It's filled with live cuts, unreleased re-recordings; and no studio recordings .

I am presenting the first seven sections [out of 44, i think]; however, they are numbered to coincide with Mr. Stein's diligent dissection and useful annotation, entirely authored by him and accompanying YT KAFKA's appropriate clip:

Bob Dylan- Renaldo and Clara (When I Paint...) 1 Bob Dylan and Bob Neuwirth are on stage singing "When I Paint My Masterpiece" as the titles roll. Dylan is wearing a rubber mask that gives him an other- worldly appearance. The rest of the band is not yet seen, just Dylan and Neuwirth (Neuwirth, for those who don't know, is a longtime Dylan companion and fellow Greenwich Village folksinger-hipster). Bob Dylan- Renaldo and Clara (David Blue) 2 A crowd of people in a dark room are discussing tour logistics and hotel arrangements. Roger McGuinn's face is visible among them. 3 David Blue (another G. Village early 60's folksinger) is playing pinball next to a swimming pool and telling the camera about his first trip to New York -- he swiped money from his father's wallet, took a bus to 42nd Street and then went right back home. He talks about old Village figures like John Brent and Hugh Romney, and about how they used to pass the hat after reading poetry. (Blue will continue telling stories while playing pinball throughout the movie.)

	Bob Dylan- Renaldo and Clara (Helena Kallianiotes) 4 Dylan is in a garage idly playing an acoustic guitar with a dark-haired woman by his side. A mechanic asks "Why are you in such a hurry?" Apparently Dylan is trading a T-bird for a cheap motorcycle. The mechanic asks "Are you running from the law?" and Dylan says "I am the law." This is Dylan in his Renaldo persona.

Bob Dylan- Renaldo and Clara (Bob Neuwirth, etc.) 5 Bob Neuwirth, in a mask, is on stage in a small club reading a poem written by a badly disabled black guy named Tony Curtis who sits watching. At the end of the poem Tony Curtis asks for money (asking for money for poems or songs will be a recurring motif in the film.) Phil Ochs (I think!) comes on stage, takes a guitar and plays a chord. 6 Record executives talk in a conference room. 7 The dark-haired woman (DHW) from the fourth scene is running up a set of stairs. Scarlet Rivera, is playing violin backstage and pauses to tune with Dylan. In the background, a Dylan version of the Hank Williams song "Kaw-Liga" plays. We see a truck labeled "Hemingway" with an Indian head on the side. As the song continues to play, a disk jockey announces that the Rolling Thunder Revue with Bob Dylan is coming to town. NOTE: there are three Indian images here -- the song "Kaw-Liga", the Indian head on the truck, and the name "Rolling Thunder" (which is the name of a famous train, but is also the name of a famous Indian chief who we will hear more of later in the film.)

	Bob Dylan-(Sara Dylan and Helena Kallianiotes) 8 Sara Dylan (Bob's wife) and DHW are in a restaurant. The DHW needs a ride to Vermont and is picked up by a stranger who overhears them talking. It seems that Sara already has a ride (that is, a lover) but that the DHW doesn't. NOTE: Sara will later put on a wig and play Clara -- without a wig I will refer to her as Sara.

	Bob Dylan- Renaldo and Clara Part 6 (Isis) 9 Dylan and the Rolling Thunder Revue on stage performing "Isis". This is the excellent version from Biograph. The sound is full, rich and chaotic (there are five guitars!) and fits very well the image of rolling thunder. NOTE: The live cuts tend to echo the drama. The song "Isis" (on Biograph he precedes it with 'This is a song about marriage') is connected to Sara's first appearance in the film. Dylan wears white makeup covering his face, as he does in all subsequent concert scenes.

Bob Dylan- Renaldo and Clara (Sara Dylan) 10 Sara picks up a rose. (This rose will continue to appear in the film.) 11 A Hollywood-style woman announcer in a fur wrap is at a microphone waiting to announce the appearance of Bob Dylan. She mistakes the first person to approach her for Bob Dylan, so she obviously has no idea who Dylan is. He tells her he's not Dylan, "Dylan is wearing a hat". Ronnie Hawkins (the blues singer who originally worked with the Band) turns up, and he's wearing a hat. The woman asks if he's Bob Dylan and he says he is. Since Ronnie Hawkins is a big bruiser with a deep voice and a thick beard, the effect of this is rather funny. The woman asks him to explain who Bob Dylan is and Hawkins says solemnly, "A hero of the highest order". NOTE: in the final credits, Ronnie Hawkins is listed as playing Bob Dylan (while Bob Dylan is listed as playing Renaldo. 12 Ronnie Hawkins (as Bob Dylan) is propositioning a young brunette to join him on tour. He lays it out straight for her -- she's a very lovely young lady and he'll give her a good time, no strings attached. Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" begins to play in the background. Hawkins/Dylan tells her, rather ominously, "You'll come back a much wiser young lady." She is hesitant; she wants to stay on the farm (though she looks nothing like a farm girl -- cf. Dylan's song "Sooner or Later": '... you weren't really from the farm'.) She wants to ask her father for permission, also recalling the Dylan song "Motorpsycho Nitemare," about a farmer and his daughter. Hawkins/Dylan and the girl begin debating about whether the world will soon end; Hawkins/Dylan says "the world's going to explode", hoping to entice her to join him. This (the world ending, apocalypse) will be another recurring motif in the film.

LAS VEGAS -- Two of the greatest icons in American sport and music were celebrated Friday when a No. 3 race car was unveiled bearing the images of NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt and the King of rock 'n' roll, Elvis Presley.

Meant to continue the legacies of both men, the "Earnhardt and Elvis" car paired these icons together as part of the "Enduring Legends" series that recently saw the Intimidator share the hood of his famous No. 3 Chevrolet with country music great Johnny Cash and cowboy film icon John Wayne.

"Earnhardt and Elvis" was unveiled in dramatic fashion among the glitz and glamor of fabulous Las Vegas in Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Neon Garage. Featuring Presley's and Earnhardt's names and likenesses on the sides and hood of the car, this is the third edition in a mufti-year series that will continue the legacy of Earnhardt by teaming him up with other iconic American personalities.

Two giants

Own a piece of history with as two American icons are celebrated with the "Earnhardt and Elvis" collection.

Earnhardt, who won 76 Cup races and a record-tying seven championships, shaped the face of NASCAR into the sport that millions of fans worldwide know and love today. A man of humble beginnings, during which he listened to the music of Elvis Presley that his mother played, Earnhardt went on to achieve superstardom doing what he loved to do most -- beat out the competition behind the wheel of a race car. His popularity has transformed him into an enduring icon of, not only NASCAR, but American culture as a whole; whose memory is celebrated on and off the track.

MEMPHIS, TN -- The threat of "Jailhouse Rock" was apparently too much for the thief who stole a gun that once belonged to Elvis. Security video shows a man, a real "devil in disguise," walking to a display case at an Elvis museum in Memphis last week. And realizing it's "Now or Never", the "Hound Dog" palmed the pistol and "left the building." But the 9 millimeter, worth about $30,000, didn't get far. We don't know if he was "all shook up" over his antics, or didn't want to "be cruel" to fans. But the thief dropped the gun in a portable toilet behind the museum. No word on whether the thief wore "blue suede shoes." The gun was taken from the Elvis after dark museum last Tuesday during a week where fans from across the world converged on Graceland to mark the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death. The museum is across the street from Graceland. The theft wasn't discovered until Friday when someone noticed that the glass on the display was unlocked. A cleaning person found...

Neon Garage Pass holders will see the official unveiling of the Earnhardt & Elvis Enduring Legends Car on Friday, Feb. 27

Race fans attending Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Feb. 27-March 1 NASCAR Weekend will enjoy an added attraction as Motorsports Authentics, along with Elvis Presley Enterprises and Dale Earnhardt Inc., will unveil its new "Earnhardt & Elvis" car in the Neon Garage on Friday, Feb. 27.

The "Earnhardt and Elvis" car, which features The King of Rock and Roll on the hood of the Intimidator's famous No. 3 Chevrolet, is the third car in the Enduring Legends Series from Motorsports Authentics and Dale Earnhardt Inc. The series is in its second year and has been very well received by both NASCAR fans and collectors. Last year, Earnhardt was paired with American legends Johnny Cash and John Wayne.

"Dale Earnhardt was instrumental in convincing NASCAR to bring the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to Las Vegas, so he has a special place in our hearts," said LVMS president Chris Powell. "Elvis - the King of Rock 'n' Roll - is a Las Vegas icon and is loved by race fans and tourists around the world. We are excited to be the host for the unveiling of this unique program and promotion in the greatest entertainment destination in the world. It's also a special treat for our Neon Garage pass holders as well."

The worldwide unveiling of the "Earnhardt & Elvis" car will take place in LVMS's Neon Garage during zMAX Pole Day and could include family members and friends of both the Earnhardt and Presley families. In addition, NASCAR fans also will be treated to a unique Elvis experience that will transform the Neon Garage into a Memphis music studio.

As part of this program launch, Las Vegas Motor Speedway will give a commemorative 1:64 scale die-cast replica of the "Earnhardt and Elvis" car to the first 10,000 fans to purchase weekend passes to the Neon Garage. Those fans purchasing a weekend pass will be given the opportunity to see the "Earnhardt & Elvis" race car up close and are invited to take pictures with the car. Following the LVMS NASCAR Weekend, the "Earnhardt & Elvis" car will go on display at Graceland in Memphis. The car will move to DEI headquarters in late April for Earnhardt's birthday. Following Earnhardt's birthday celebration, the car will never be on display again.

All of the "Earnhardt and Elvis" die-cast and apparel items will be available in the speedway's midway at Earnhardt's merchandise rig during the event weekend.

"Because of the strong fan reaction and collector excitement we experienced around the Johnny Cash and John Wayne cars in 2008, we're expecting the ‘Earnhardt & Elvis' car to be the most popular program of the entire Enduring Legends Series," said Mark Dyer, president and CEO of Motorsports Authentics. "Elvis's legacy as a great American icon makes him the perfect man to grace the hood of the famous No. 3 Chevrolet and we're excited to make this worldwide car unveiling at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of its action-packed weekend of NASCAR racing."

He still has one of the most devoted fan bases to this day, much like Earnhardt, whose loyal following still proudly display their love, honor and respect for the man known as the Intimidator.

Motorsports Authentics, through its Action Racing Collectables die-cast brand, will be offering a collectible version of the limited edition No. 3 Dale Earnhardt/Elvis Presley car. Die-cast replica cars are available at the No. 3 trackside merchandise rigs, at the NASCAR.COM Superstore and at Motorsports Authentics authorized dealers nationwide. Chase Authentics, the authentic trackside apparel of NASCAR, will also offer Presley and Earnhardt fans an opportunity to express their love of both men through an array of apparel items such as hats and t-shirts.

Acclaimed NASCAR artist Sam Bass created a one-of-a-kind Gibson guitar to commemorate "Earnhardt and Elvis" to be auctioned off in support of the Dale Earnhardt Foundation and the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation.

"Earnhardt and Elvis" will make a cross-country journey from Las Vegas to Memphis, where both the car and guitar will go on public display the weekend of March 6th, 2009 at Graceland's Elvis Presley Automobile Museum.

Following its tenure at Elvis' home and final resting place, both items will be on display at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in time for the celebration of Dale Earnhardt's birthday on April 29
