Harvey Mandel
Harvey 'The Snake' Mandel shows how it is done in this ripping piece about the pioneering guitarist, by Rand Crook. It's a damn shame more people have not watched this. I can remember hearing the Stones track "Hotstuff" when I was kid and blown away by the guitar solo's. How in the hell did he play that stuff...Also I heard Terry Kilgore say that Harvey taught him and EVH how to tap.Harvey Mandel- Christo Redentor

JOHNNY CASH: The Last Great American [Part 1-5]
12345HEY, i know after you guys saw that fantastic johnny cash biopic (which i thought was pronounced bio-optic till recently), you started chicken' out the man in black. that 'walk the line' is great isn't it? whoa, he even took speed and got thrown in jail for picnicking daisies...take that Wikipedia. and i know a lot more about john cash, even more interstitial things like about the Rastafarian home-invasion in Jamaica and more drugs than you can shake a stick at. so like you, because of the movie and how well heath ledger played the man in black and then how it killed him, so much was he into the part, that's a movie right there, speaking of which have you heard that movie about the song teenage queen, and vice verso. yes, johnny was great just ask those last fellows who really showed the world, i mean cuss really nobody knew before Trent reznor and the beastly boy, nu guy with the beard, that jc was the whizzbang. they really helped ol johnny get some peace so he could die contented and i hope he thanks them in heaven, or at least one of them, when they get there. then they can make him do more hipster versions of songs that are incredibly piquant when juxtaposed with the guy singing them. now who's going to hell? oh, well, i don't have all the answers, just more than the la idiots and their idiotic entree into tapping into the lid of the USA. whack! god bless 'em. there's a special ring there, the tenth which Dante didn't draw because he was vomiting so much trying to study prolapsed assholes. good luck, guys. it's only eternity. so, like i was saying, besides all that bullshit, this dockworker has Merle 'trucking' kilgore in it more than once. and way down embedded in these unlucky notes, is just fine for the Mk fans, cuss they ain't a lot of em. so watch the parts and get your much deserved Merle kilgore fix. you know who he is, and that's all that matters.tpa
Todd Haynes: "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story": I drank on an empty stomach last night, so i just discovered lots of drafts. i remember This tho!
Todd Haynes [Far from heaven, Safe] burst upon the scene two years after his graduation with his now-infamous 43-minute "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story" (1987).
Seizing upon the inspired gimmick of using Barbie and Ken
dolls to sympathetically recount the story of the pop star's death from anorexia, he spent months making miniature dishes, chairs, costumes, Kleenex and Ex-Lax boxes, and Carpenters' records to create the film's
Bio
Unfortunately, Richard Carpenter's enmity for the film led to the serving of a "cease and desist" order in 1989, and despite the director's offer "to only show the film in clinics and schools, with all money going to the Karen Carpenter memorial fund for anorexia research," "Superstar" remains buried, one of the few films in modern America that cannot be seen by the general public.
Intricate, doll-size muse-en-scene.
The result was both audacious.and accomplished as
The dolls seemingly ceased to be dolls
leaving the audience weeping for the tragic singer.

Lonnie Donegan: Grand Coolie Dam + Jack Of Diamonds + [Paddy Madison and Lee Stone] [SIX-FIVE Special-1958 THESE GIRLS ARE UNDRESSIN' HIS SKIFFLE! ]
SIX-FIVE Special (1958) - part 5of6
1) Lonnie Donegan - "Grand Coolie Dam", "Jack Of Diamonds"
2) Paddy Madison and Lee Stone
========================================
The Six-Five Special was a British television programme launched in February 1957 when both television and rock'n'roll were in their infancy in Britain.
It was the BBC's first attempt at a rock'n'roll programme, a very great innovation at the time and subsequently much imitated, even today. It was called the "Six-Five Special" because of the time it was broadcast - it went out, live of course as all programmes did then, at five past six on a Saturday evening.
Jack Good was the producer and disc jockey Pete Murray was its presenter who used the catchphrase "Time to jive on the old six five". Its resident band was Don Lang and his Frantic Five. The show opened with film of a steam train accompanied by the programme's theme song, played and sung by the Frantic Five.
The show was originally scheduled to last six weeks but, as a result of Jack Good ignoring the guidance given to him by the BBC management not to show the young audience alongside the performers, it continued indefinitely.
The BBC interfered with Good's vision of what the show should be by cluttering it with educational and information elements, as per their Public Service Broadcasting policy. The relationship between Good and the BBC became strained and they eventually fired him, resulting in a big loss of viewing audience.
Jack Good would quickly join the ITV company ABC to create "Oh Boy!", which was the show he'd wanted to make from day one. It featured non-stop music and lost the tedious "public service-inspired" elements as part of its more frenzied pace, and trounced the further-diluted "Six-Five Special" in the ratings.
"Harmonica" Frank Floyd: Shampoo [AUDIO - FILTHIEST SONG IV HEARD IN A WHILE, MERRY XXXMAS]
"harmonica" frank floyd: shampoo
the original white country blues man: elvis heard him, as did dylan ... with his vaudeville experience through minstrel shows, he became an incredible mixture of white country (jimmie rodgers, emmett miller) and real blues ... this song comes from a beautiful cd; the great medical menagerist (adelphi/GENES record) ... do yourself a favour and buy it...Harmonica Frank Floyd, who recorded a couple of records for Sun Records and Chess Records in the early 1950s. Floyd was a modern day hobo; no one knew anything about him, and because he disappeared from the scene after these early recordings, many later blues fans and researchers assumed he was a black artist based on the bluesy sound of his records. He was a one-man band, playing the harmonica held in his mouth like a cigar. This was a trick that Sonny Boy Williamson II occasionally employed as a gimmick, but for Frank Floyd it was no gimmick - it was the ONLY way he played. It's unknown whether Sonny Boy or Frank did it first, since they were on the scene at the same time, but it's pretty obvious who did it better.

"Best known outside his native Germany for his collaborative work with fetish style magazines SKIN TWO, SECRET, >>O<< and Marquis.
Much of Wolfgang Eichler's work celebrates the fetish glamour ideal. Big on colour and strong on strong women,
Eichler's extensive knowledge and emphaty with fetish iconography gives his images their distinctive style.
Often endowing his pictures with their own hyper-real movie-style narrative, an Eichler image is a thought-provoking one in that it requests the viewer to work out for himself what exactly is going on.

Merry Clayton: Gimme Shelter [audio] + Dirty Dancing Soundtrack: Yes [audio] + Sammy Davis, Jr.: Baretta's Theme (live) [thanks to HOTG- Dan Phillips]
Her searing performance with Mick Jagger on "Gimme Shelter" gave her a place in rock 'n' roll history. She also worked closely with Joe Cocker and his band, singing on many of his early hits, and later backed Carole King on her big albums of the era. Also in 1969, she signed on with Ode Records, a division of A&M, as a solo artist. Previously, I've featured cuts from her first two LPs, Gimme Shelter and Merry Clayton, both of which were impressive*; and, today, I've got two songs up for consideration that appeared on her third Ode album, Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow, which would be her swan song for the label. As is usually the case, I have chosen cuts with the highest funk quotient.
"Keep Your Eye On the Sparrow" (Dave Grusin -Morgan Ames)
Merry Clayton, Ode 66110, 1975
LISTEN
I confess that I don't think I ever watched the TV detective series, Baretta, which began in 1975 and had "Keep Your Eye On the Sparrow" as its theme song. Surprisingly, Sammy Davis, Jr.**
sang the TV version - and, for Sammy, it was a fairly funky affair arranged by Dave Grusin, who co-wrote the tune. That "official" version was released as a single the next year, but didn't do much. Then, also in 1976, Rhythm Heritage, comprised of a bunch of top LA studio musicians, covered it. Their version shot up to #20; and I recall hearing a version of the song on the radio back then that was likely theirs.

Come Here baby
You know you drive me up a wall the way you make good on all the
nasty tricks you pull
Seems like we're makin' up more than we're makin' love
And it always seems you got somn' on your mind other than me
Girl, you got to change your crazy ways
You hear me
Say you're leavin' on a seven thirty train and that you're headin'
out to Hollywood
Girl you been givin' me that line so many times it kinda gets like
feelin' bad looks good
That kinda lovin'
Turns a man to a slave
That kinda lovin'
Sends a man right to his grave...
[Chorus:]
I go crazy, crazy, baby, I go crazy
You turn it on
Then you're gone
Yeah you drive me
Crazy, crazy, crazy, for you baby
What can I do, honey
I feel like the color blue...
You're packin' up your stuff and talkin' like it's tough and tryin'
to tell me that it's time to go
But I know you ain't wearin' nothin' underneath that overcoat
And it's all a show
That kind of lovin'
Makes me wanna pull
Down the shade, yeah
That kind of lovin'
Yeah now I'm never, never, never, never gonna be the same
[Chorus]
I'm losin' my mind, girl
'Cause I'm goin' crazy
I need your love, honey
I need your love
Crazy, crazy, crazy, I go crazy
You turn it on
Then you're gone
Yeah you drive me
Crazy, crazy, crazy, for you baby
I'm losin' my mind, girl
ÔĂause I'm goin' crazy
Crazy, crazy, crazy for you baby
You turn it on, then your gone
Yeah you drive me
The Rolling Stones - Anybody Seen My Baby [LIVE AT THE SLEAZEBALL LOUNGE]
The Rolling Stones - Anybody Seen My Baby
She confessed her
love to me
Then she vanished
On the breeze
Trying to hold on to that
Was just impossible
She was more than beautiful
Closer to ethereal
With a kind of
Down to earth flavor
Close my eyes
It's three in the afternoon
Then I realize
That she's really
Gone for good
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
Love has gone
And made me blind
I've looked but I just can't find
She has gotten lost
In the crowd
I was flippin' magazines
In that place on Mercer Street
When I thought I spotted her
Getting on a motor bike
Looking rather lady like
Didn't she just give me a wave?
Salty tears
It's three in the afternoon
Has she disappeared
Is she really gone for good
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
If I just close my eyes
I reach out
And touch the prize
Anybody seen her around
(Rap)
Anybody seen my baby
Anybody seen her around
If I just close my eyes
I reach out
And touch the prize
Anybody seen her around
Lost, lost and never found
I must have called her
A thousand times
Sometimes I think
She's just in my imagination
Lost in the crowd

Peter Lorre - Peter Sings! (Was Frauen träumen - 1933)
Otto Fuessli (Lorre) and Rina Korff (Nora Gregor) sing a duet to the song, "Ja, die Polizei" ("Yes, the Police").
English movie translation: "What Women Dream"
Music translation from "The Lost One" page 76:
Yes, sir, the police, they are the cutest fellows.
Yes, sir, the police, they're always at their best.
The lieutenants are adept at handling women.
And when the men kiss them, they're impressed!
Yes, sir, the police, they fascinate every girl.
Who can't just pass by, one, two, three.
Sure, ev'ry little town has got good looking guys.
But the handsomest of all are the police!
Peter Lorre: Stupéfiants [1932]
Please forgive me if I botch this. :)
The hunchback (Lorre), a drug dealer, has just kidnapped a young singer who is addicted to narcotics. I believe the plan is to blackmail her family for money. He compels her to make a recording of her voice that he can play over the phone to her family.
This was a German/French co-production. I apologize that I don't know French and am unable to translate this. I just find Peter speaking French to be a beautiful thing! The plot of this movie is about a drug pusher who gets a young singer hooked on drugs. Her brother tries to catch the bad guys and save his sister.
Peter Lorre - M'sieu Cochon (Strange Cargo - 1940)
M'sieu Cochon ("Pig") approaches Julie (Joan Crawford), whom he desires, and gets a blast with both barrels. This is also where Andre (Clark Gable), a prisoner on the island, first meets her. Cochon (Lorre) works on Devil's Island and makes a living turning in escaping convicts to the authorities. For this he is seen as a loathsome stool pigeon. He looks very cute in a white suit, however.
Jimmy McCulloch (The Dukes - Heartbreaker) - 1979
I just read "Blackbird" and it was almost bad treatment with every scary remembered people in the boat and the pen over the medicine jar, which to me is one of the 5 best Othello-sane drug's Keith Richards made, true, though, but always a whizkid on guitar, so much too to the HOCKSHOP Jimmy's favorite freaking brilliant shame.
